Renate Urne
Renate Urne (born 11 June 1982) is a retired Norwegian international handballer. She played in her native Norway for Erdal IL, IL Bjørnar and Tertnes HE, before moving to German side HC Leipzig HC Leipzig is a women's handball club based in Leipzig, Germany. They play in Handball-Bundesliga Frauen and are often competing in the EHF Women's Champions League, the now defunct EHF Women's Cup Winners' Cup, which merged with the Women's EHF ... in 2007. She stayed in Leipzig until her retirement in 2011. Urne made her debut on the Norwegian national team in 2003, and has played a total of 20 matches and scored 15 goals. She made her final appearance in the national team at the 2009 World Women's Handball Championship against Romania, winning the match 25–24. The Norway women's national handball team represents Norway at international handball competitions, and is governed by the Norges Håndballforbund (NHF). As of 2022, Norway has been in 24 finals and is regarded as one of the finest women's national handball team ever. World Women's Handball Championship
The IHF Women's Handball World Championship has been organized by the International Handball Federation since 1957. European teams have won every time except 1995 where South Korea won as the first team outside Europe and 2013 where Brazil won as the first American team. The biggest winners are Russia and Norway with four titles each. Nine teams participated in the first championship, this number has grown in steps to 32 (from 2021). In 1977 a B-tournament was introduced and later in 1986 a C-tournament which served as qualification for the real championship or A-tournament. The B- and C-tournament qualifications were replaced by the present qualification system based on continental confederations in 1993. From 1993 it has been held every other year. The 2009 World Women's Handball Championship was the 19th edition, second to take place outside Europe, of the international championship tournament in women's team sport handball that is governed by the International Handball Federation (IHF). Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it.
