''Remember (The Great Adventure)'' is the ninth studio album by the German solo artist Michael Rother. It was released on 25 April 2004. The studio album was Rother's first since 1996 and his sole full release of material in the 2000s. It would take sixteen years till his next album. '' Dreaming'' was released in 2020. The album was recorded between 1997 and 2004 in Germany at Rother's own studio Random Studio in Forst and Studio B3, Hamburg/St. Pauli. Receiving positive reviews the album was released as a CD in the EU in 2004 before it was released in the US in February 2005. The artwork was conceptualized by Thomas Beckmann and Michael Rother with photography from Michael Rother's archive. Recording and music ''Remember (The Great Adventure)'' was recorded over a period of seven years, unusually for his solo work the album was recorded in collaboration with a number of musicians. Michael Rother
Michael Rother (born 2 September 1950) is a German experimental musician, best known for being a founding member of the influential bands Neu! and Harmonia, and an early member of the band Kraftwerk. Early life and education Born in 1950, Rother was educated in Munich, Wilmslow (England), Karachi, and Düsseldorf. He also resided in Pakistan in the early 1960s where he was exposed to Pakistani music that would influence his own music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. From 1965 Rother played in the band Spirits of Sound, from which other members would later go on to join Kraftwerk (Wolfgang Flür) and Wunderbar. Krautrock
Krautrock (also called , German for ) is a broad genre of experimental rock that developed in West Germany in the late 1960s and early 1970s among artists who blended elements of psychedelic rock, avant-garde composition, and electronic music, among other eclectic sources. These artists incorporated hypnotic rhythms, extended improvisation, musique concrète techniques, and early synthesizers, while generally moving away from the rhythm & blues roots and song structure found in traditional Anglo-American rock music. Excepting 1993's compilation album ''Radio'', the studio album was Rother's first since 1987 and his sole full release of material in the 1990s. Additional recording and digital treatments took place at Alphaton Studio, Wentorf in December 1995 and January 1996. Aside from some soundtrack material during the 2010s (''The Robbers'' and ''Houston''), ''Dreaming'' is Michael Rother's first solo effort since ''Remember (The Great Adventure)'' was released in 2004. The album was constructed from leftover musical sketches and vocal samples of Sophie Joiner from the sessions for ''Remember (The Great Adventure)''. The album was recorded between 1995 and 2020 in Germany at Rother's own Katzenmusik Studio in Forst and Studio B3, Hamburg. Receiving positive reviews the album was released as a CD, vinyl-LP and on digital formats.
