Their music contains many rare time signatures, unconventional harmonies, and unusual violin parts. The Kovenant
The Kovenant is a Norwegian industrial metal band from Hamar. The band originally formed as a symphonic black metal act known as Covenant in 1993, but in 1999 were forced to change their name to The Kovenant due to a dispute with a Swedish electronic band of the same name. The band's name change also marked a change in sound/style as well, as the band from there on began to focus more on an aggrotech/ industrial metal sound heavily influenced by Europe's EBM scene. Despite their style change, The Kovenant did however later reissue their early albums under The Kovenant name. History The "Covenant" years (1994–1999) The band was formed as Covenant in 1993 by two black metal artists known as Nagash and Blackheart. They both met when Blackheart decided to help Nagash with his one-man project Troll. They garnered little attention after releasing a demo titled ''From the Storm of Shadows'', but eventually a record label, Mordgrimm, took notice of them and released their first al ...

Ride The Sky
Ride the Sky was a progressive power metal band formed by ex-Helloween, Gamma Ray, and Masterplan drummer Uli Kusch, and Tears of Anger members Bjørn Jansson and Benny Jansson. History The ground work for Ride the Sky began in 2006 when drummer Uli Kusch started swapping musical ideas with vocalist Bjorn Jansson. Uli left Masterplan later that year and was asked by Bjorn and Benny to do some guest work on the next Tears of Anger album. Uli was impressed with the music sent to him, and started sending some of his own compositions back to them. The three musicians decided to put all their work to play in Ride the Sky. The trio hired bassist Mathias Garnås, and keyboardist Kaspar Dahlqvist, in order to, according to them, to "Gain the highest caliber of talent to complete the band". They have so far released one album entitled '' New Protection'', on metal label Nuclear Blast records. The band combines strong traits of progressive metal, power metal, and symphonic metal, w ...

Viper Solfa
Viper Solfa is a Norwegian extreme / gothic metal band from Kristiansand, Norway. It was founded in 2013 by Ronny Thorsen, once the symphonic black metal band Trail of Tears was separated. History After almost two decades of to exist Trail of Tears, the differences between some of its surviving members had become unsustainable; in consequence, they decided to go their own way in early 2013, prior to the release of their seventh studio album ''Oscillation''. Viper Solfa came some months later in the same year, as an idea of the lead singer Ronny Thorsen, who wanted a somewhat different project he had done so far, with a more aggressive sound and focused on gothic black metal and power metal. Thorsen quickly gathered his former colleagues in Trail of Tears: bassist Endre Moe (formerly Dimension F3H and Cutthroat), and drummer Bjørn Dugstad Rønnow (Sphere). Thorsen asked to join at the prominent singer and multi-instrumentalist "Morfeus" (Krister Dreyer), who was already k ...

Solefald
Solefald is a Norwegian avant-garde metal/black metal band that was formed by members Lars Are "Lazare" Nedland and Cornelius Jakhelln in August 1995, with Nedland singing and playing keyboard/synthesizer/piano and drums, and Jakhelln singing and playing guitar and bass. The duo experiment with a wide array of musical styles, frequently work on other projects, and rarely perform live under the Solefald name, leading them to describe themselves as "two stubborn goats pretending to be a band." According to the duo, their name is an Old Norse word for "sunset," taken from one of Theodor Kittelsen's paintings illustrating a poem of the same name by Theodor Caspari, published in the 1901 book ''Vintereventyr''. History Their first official rehearsal together was in 1995 with the song "When The Moon Is On The Wave." They released their first, 5 song demo, entitled ''Jernlov'' (translated to ''Iron Law'' in English), in 1996. ''Jernlov'' was the band's most traditional black metal re ...

Mortal Love
Mortal Love was a Norwegian metal band from the city of Elverum, formed in 2000. Their sound made combined use of soprano and tenor vocals, whilst placing emphasis on a consistent rhythm section with heavy guitars, piano and synthesizer melodies. Their three released albums, which lyrically dealt with love and failed relationships, were composed as a trilogy, as can be observed by combining their titles — All the Beauty, I Have Lost, Forever Will Be Gone. The band released the final album of the trilogy on 22 September 2006. On 21 November 2010, the band posted on their Tumblr blog an announcement claiming they had composed over 50 new songs and settled on 10 for the release of a new album. However, it was also stated in the post that their sound had changed, becoming "less guitar-heavy", and that their label Massacre Records had declined to fund the recording and release of the album due to that. The band explained that other options were being explored, such as having th ...

Industrial Music
Industrial music is a genre of music that draws on harsh, mechanical, transgressive or provocative sounds and themes. AllMusic defines industrial music as the "most abrasive and aggressive fusion of rock and electronic music" that was "initially a blend of avant-garde electronics experiments ( tape music, musique concrète, white noise, synthesizers, sequencers, etc.) and punk provocation". The term was coined in the mid-1970s with the founding of Industrial Records by members of Throbbing Gristle and Monte Cazazza. While the genre name originated with Throbbing Gristle's emergence in the United Kingdom, artists and labels vital to the genre also emerged in the United States and other countries. The first industrial artists experimented with noise and aesthetically controversial topics, musically and visually, such as fascism, sexual perversion, and the occult. Prominent industrial musicians include Throbbing Gristle, Monte Cazazza, SPK, Boyd Rice, Cabaret Voltaire, an ...

Thrash Metal
Thrash metal (or simply thrash) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by its overall aggression and often fast tempo.Kahn-Harris, Keith, ''Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge'', pp. 2–3, 9. Oxford: Berg, 2007, . The songs usually use fast percussive beats and low-register guitar riffs, overlaid with shredding-style lead guitar work. The lyrical subject matter often includes criticism of The Establishment and concern over environmental destruction, and at times shares a disdain for Christian dogma with that of black metal. The language is typically direct and denunciatory, an approach borrowed from hardcore punk. The genre emerged in the early 1980s as musicians began fusing the double bass drumming and complex guitar stylings of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) with the speed and aggression of hardcore punk. Philosophically, thrash metal developed as a backlash against both the conservatism of the Reagan Era and the much more mo ...

Black Metal
Black metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Common traits include fast tempos, a shrieking vocal style, heavily distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, raw (lo-fi) recording, unconventional song structures, and an emphasis on atmosphere. Artists often appear in corpse paint and adopt pseudonyms. During the 1980s, several thrash metal and death metal bands formed a prototype for black metal. This "first wave" included bands such as Venom, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. A second wave arose in the early 1990s, spearheaded by Norwegian bands such as Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal, Emperor, Satyricon and Gorgoroth. The early Norwegian black metal scene developed the style of their forebears into a distinct genre. Norwegian-inspired black metal scenes emerged throughout Europe and North America, although some other scenes developed their own styles independently. Some prominent Swedish bands spawned during this second wav ...
