Rainey Endowed School
Rainey Endowed School, known colloquially as "The Rainey", is a voluntary grammar school in Magherafelt, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The school was founded in 1713 and has an enrolment of around 700 pupils. Each year group has a total number of about 100 students. The school borders three counties and draws its students from County Londonderry, County Antrim and County Tyrone. It offers the Northern Ireland curricula up to the age of 16 and a range of AS and A2 courses at post 16. It is also a member of a local inter-school program which shares its A-level classes with other schools in the area. History Establishment Rainey Endowed School was founded by Hugh Rainey, an iron smelter and wealthy merchant in the Magherafelt district. Magherafelt
Magherafelt (, �mˠaxəɾʲəˈfʲiːlt̪ˠə is a small town and civil parish in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It had a population of 8,805 at the 2011 Census. It is the biggest town in the south of the county and is the social, economic and political hub of the area. It is part of Mid-Ulster District. History Magherafelt has been documented as a town since 1425. An earlier name for the area was ''Teach Fíolta'' - ‘Fíolta’s (monastic) house’. This would suggest that there was a monastic settlement here under the leadership of Fíolta. Jonathan Anderson is a Northern Irish fashion designer and the founder of JW Anderson. Anderson is known for his eponymous label and having served as the creative director of Spanish luxury house LOEWE. General Fiasco are an indie rock group from Bellaghy, Northern Ireland. Derrick Samuel Frederick Crothers (born 24 June 1942 in Belfast, died 15 January 2021) was a Northern Irish mathematician, physicist and former politician. Philip Kumar Maini (born 16 October 1959 in Magherafelt, Northern Ireland) is a Northern Irish mathematician. Since 1998, he has been the Professor of Mathematical Biology at the University of Oxford and is the director of the Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology in the Mathematical Institute. Patsy McGlone (born 8 July 1959) is an Irish politician from Ballinderry in Northern Ireland.
