RMS Virginian
SS ''Drottningholm'' was one of the earliest Steam turbine#Marine propulsion, steam turbine ocean liners. She was designed as a Transatlantic crossing, transatlantic liner and Packet boat#Mail steamer, mail ship for Allan Line Royal Mail Steamers, Allan Line, built in Scotland, and launched in 1904 as RMS ''Virginian''. Her sister ship, , was built in Ireland, launched four months earlier, and was the World's first turbine-powered liner. In the World War I, First World War ''Virginian'' spent a few months as a troopship and was then converted into an Armed merchantman#Armed merchant cruisers, armed merchant cruiser (AMC). In August 1917 a U-boat damaged her with a torpedo. In 1920 she was sold to the Swedish American Line and remnamed ''Drottningholm''. Drottningholm
Drottningholm, literally "Queen's Islet", is a locality situated in Ekerö Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden, with 398 inhabitants in 2010. It is on the island Lovön in lake Mälaren on the outskirts of Stockholm. Drottningholm Palace, the residence of the Swedish Royal Family since 1981, is here. The village was planned and built in the mid-18th century for the people working at the palace. It is a good example of how a Swedish village would have looked like in the 18th and 19th centuries, containing many picturesque houses and villas. Length between perpendiculars (often abbreviated as p/p, p.p., pp, LPP, LBP or Length BPP) is the length of a ship along the summer load line from the forward surface of the stem, or main bow perpendicular member, to the after surface of the sternpost, or main stern perpendicular member.
