The sinking of the RMS ''Titanic'' in 1912 shocked the world and attracted controversy, resulting in a number of conspiracy theories regarding the disaster. One such hypothesis is that the sunken ship was actually the ''Titanic''s near-identical sister-ship '' Olympic'', which was the subject of a large insurance claim, and that the two vessels were secretly switched prior to the voyage.
