Ryan Blakney
Ryan Benjamin Blakney (born May 24, 1985) is an American Major League Baseball (MLB) umpire. He made his MLB debut on April 21, 2015. For the 2018 regular season he was found to be one of the ten best home plate umpires in terms of accuracy in calling balls and strikes. His error rate was 7.97 percent. This was based on a study conducted at Boston University where 372,442 pitches were culled and analyzed. Blakney was promoted to a full-time umpiring position before the 2020 Major League Baseball season began. Blakney was the home plate umpire during Reid Detmers's no-hitter on May 10, 2022. In baseball, a no-hitter is a game in which a team was not able to record a hit. Major League Baseball (MLB) officially defines a no-hitter as a completed game in which a team that batted in at least nine innings recorded no hits. A pitcher who prevents the opposing team from achieving a hit is said to have "thrown a no-hitter". In most cases, no-hitters are recorded by a single pitcher who throws a complete game; one thrown by two or more pitchers is a combined no-hitter. Reid Detmers
Reid Kristien Detmers (born July 8, 1999) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB). Detmers was born in Nokomis, Illinois and attended Nokomis High School as well as Glenwood High School, lettering in baseball for four seasons between the two schools. He played college baseball at the University of Louisville for three seasons, earning Atlantic Coast Conference and national accolades by his second season. By his junior year, Detmers was considered one of the top prospects for the MLB draft. He was selected tenth overall by the Angels in the first round of the 2020 draft and signed with the team, forgoing his final year of college eligibility. Midwest League
The Midwest League is a Minor League Baseball league established in 1947 and based in the Midwestern United States. A Class A league for most of its history, the league was promoted to High-A as part of Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues.
