Rutherford County Schools is a school district based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, United States. It serves Rutherford County, Tennessee—excluding pre-kindergarten through 6th grade in Murfreesboro itself, which is served by the Murfreesboro City Schools system. The district gained national attention during the COVID-19 pandemic when local high school student Grady Knox was harassed by district meeting attendees after explaining that his grandmother had died due to the lack of mask-wearing in local schools. Outgoing school board chairman Coy Young subsequently apologized, stating his "regret the young man was treated the way he was." Smyrna High School is a high school in the Rutherford County school district located in Smyrna, Tennessee, United States. History Smyrna High was founded in 1919. In 1988, it was split into the current La Vergne High School and Smyrna High School in order to provide adequate room for student enrollment. In 2000, Smyrna went through yet another split with the building of Blackman High School. The current Smyrna Middle School building was the previous home of Smyrna High. In June 2011, Robert Raikes retired as principal of Smyrna High School after 37 years at the position, and over 50 years of being with the school. Siegel High School is a public high school in the Rutherford County School System in Tennessee. The Principal, Mr. Larry Creasy, has been the head of the administrative staff since 2014. The school was established in 2000 to complement the existing Blackman Elementary School.
