Rosie Manning
Roosevelt "Rosie" Manning, Jr. (born May 31, 1950) is an American former professional football defensive tackle who played four seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles. He was selected by the Falcons in the second round of the 1972 NFL draft after playing college football at Northeastern State University. Early life and college Roosevelt Manning, Jr. was born on May 31, 1950, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Wichita Falls. He was a member of the Northeastern State RiverHawks football team from 1968 to 1971. Professional career Manning was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the secone round, with the 42nd overall pick, of the 1972 NFL draft. He officially signed with the team on March 11. A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that typically lines up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the Guard (American football), offensive guards; however, he may also line up opposite one of the offensive Tackle (gridiron football position), tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. The 1972 NFL draft was the 37th annual meeting of National Football League (NFL) franchises to select newly eligible football players. The draft was held on February 1 and 2 at the Essex House in New York City, New York. With the first overall pick of the draft, the Buffalo Bills selected defensive end Walt Patulski.
