Jonathan Rosenbaum (born February 27, 1943) is an American film critic and author. Rosenbaum was the head film critic for '' The Chicago Reader'' from 1987 to 2008, when he retired. He has published and edited numerous books about cinema and has contributed to such notable film publications as '' Cahiers du cinéma'' and '' Film Comment''. Kenosha Unrest Shooting
On August 25, 2020, Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old from Antioch, Illinois, fatally shot two men and wounded another man in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The shootings occurred during the protests, riots, and civil unrest that followed the shooting of a black man, Jacob Blake, by a white police officer. Race was a major theme in US media commentary, although Rittenhouse and those he shot were white. Rittenhouse was armed with an AR-15 style rifle and had joined a group of armed people in Kenosha who said that they were in Kenosha to protect businesses. Joseph Rosenbaum, a 36-year-old unarmed Kenosha man, chased Rittenhouse into a parking lot and grabbed the barrel of his rifle. Rittenhouse shot Rosenbaum four times at close range. Jacques Rosenbaum
Jacques Rosenbaum (full name: Jacques Gustav-Adolf Rosenbaum-Ehrenbush) (1 July 1878 in Haapsalu, Estonia, Russian Empire – 6 January 1944 in Berlin, Germany) was an Estonian architect of Baltic German descent. Between 1904–07 he served as municipal architect of Tartu, Estonia, and is best known for his Art Nouveau buildings in Tallinn. Early life Rosenbaum was the second child of Moritz Leonhard Gabriel Rosenbaum (1846–1907) and Mathilde von Liphardt. He came from a Baltic German bourgeois family, and he may possibly have had Jewish ancestors. His father was a lawyer and his paternal grandfather was also an architect. Edward E Rosenbaum (May 14, 1915 – May 31, 2009), was an American physician and author. He is best known for the autobiographical chronicle of his experience with throat cancer, ''The Doctor,'' (initially published as ''A Taste of My Own Medicine''), which was the basis of the movie ''The Doctor'', starring William Hurt as a physician modeled on Dr. Rosenbaum. He was also the founder of the Division of Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases at the Oregon Health & Science University, where a chair of medicine is named in his honor. Eli M. Rosenbaum (born May 8, 1955) is an American lawyer and the former Director of the United States Department of Justice, Office of Special Investigations (OSI), which was primarily responsible for identifying, denaturalizing, and deporting Nazi war criminals, from 1994 to 2010, when OSI was merged into the new Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section. He is now the Director of Human Rights Enforcement Strategy and Policy in that section. He has been termed a "legendary Nazi hunter." Isamar Rosenbaum (1886–1973) was a Hasidic rebbe of the Hasidic dynasty, Hasidic dynasties of Nadvorna (Hasidic dynasty), Nadvorna and Kretshnif (Hasidic dynasty), Kretshnif. He was the son of Rabbi Meyer Rosenbaum (I), Meyer Rosenbaum (1852 - June 29 1908) of Kretshniff, who in turn was a son of Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvorna (1824–1894). Rosenbaum became a rebbe at the age of fifteen and, at his father's behest, moved to Czernowitz where he served as a chasidic rebbe. In the Nadvorna dynasty, all children of the rebbes open their own chasidic courts, even during their fathers' lifetime. Helmut Rosenbaum (11 May 1913 – 10 May 1944) was a ''Korvettenkapitän'' (LT Commander) in Nazi Germany's ''Kriegsmarine'' during World War II who commanded U-boat , and the 30th U-boat Flotilla. He received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. He is credited with the sinking of six ships for a total of and three warships. Born in Döbeln, Rosenbaum joined the ''Reichsmarine'' (navy of the Weimar Republic) in 1932. After a period of training on surface vessels and service on various U-boats during the Spanish Civil War, he took command of his first U-boat in 1939.
