Arthur Rook (dermatologist)
Arthur James Rook FRCP (15 May 1918 – 30 July 1991) was a leading British dermatologist and the principal author of ''Rook's Textbook of Dermatology'' (1968), known as "Rook's", which reached its ninth edition in 2016. Rook was closely associated with Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, as a consultant dermatologist and later wrote the history of that hospital. He was the editor of the ''British Journal of Dermatology'', president of the British Association of Dermatologists, and of the International Society of Tropical Dermatology, was elected an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and became the president of the British Society for the History of Medicine. Darrell Wilkinson
Peter Edward Darrell Sheldon Wilkinson (7 August 1919 – 17 August 2009) was a leading figure in dermatology who was consultant at Aylesbury and High Wycombe, co-edited the first edition of Rook's 1968 '' Textbook of Dermatology'' and founded the International Foundation for Dermatology in 1987. Born in the south of England into a medical family, Wilkinson was educated in the classics before studying medicine in London. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, after which he pursued a medical career in London and later High Wycombe. Wilkinson made some of the earliest dermatological descriptions of skin diseases including perioral dermatitis, photocontact dermatitis and Sneddon-Wilkinson disease. Described as "one of the greatest dermatologists of our time", he became president of the British Association of Dermatologists in 1979 and won the Sir Archibald Grey medal in 1984. John Ebling
Francis John Govier Ebling (21 June 1918 – 29 May 1992), generally known as John Ebling, was Professor of Zoology at the University of Sheffield from 1968 to 1983, and subsequently Emeritus Professor of Dermatology 1983-1992. He is best known as a researcher in marine biology who helped to establish Lough Hyne as a field station, and is one of the lead characters in ''Reflections on a Summer Sea'', a history of this facility. He had a second research interest on sebaceous gland function and skin. This dominated in later life, and he was editor of the 3rd to 5th editions of the ''Textbook of Dermatology''. He also authored and edited a number of other books on biology and endocrinology including ''The Glands Inside Us'' and ''Population Control by Social Behaviour''. Addenbrooke's Hospital is an internationally renowned large teaching hospital and research centre in Cambridge, England, with strong affiliations to the University of Cambridge.
