Romford Cemetery
Romford Cemetery is a cemetery in the southwest of the town of Romford in Greater London, United Kingdom. It is owned by Havering London Borough Council. History Romford Burial Board was established in 1869 to provide a new cemetery to replace the existing one that had become full. Land was purchased in 1870 and Crow Lane Cemetery was opened for burials on 27 October 1871. It had previously formed part Nuthatches Farm. were initially purchased, of which only about were laid out as cemetery. Part of the cemetery was consecrated by the Bishop of Rochester on 24 October 1871. Romford
Romford is a large List of places in London, town in east London, east London, England, located northeast of Charing Cross. Coronation Gardens
Coronation Gardens is a small public park in Romford, Greater London, England. It is the location of the Romford war memorial and is a former cemetery. First Romford cememtery In 1844 the site was intended to be the location of a replacement for the St Edward's Church in Market Place, but was not built. It was then used as a cemetery, consecrated by the Bishop of Rochester on 21 September 1850. It was superseded when it became full by Crow Lane Cemetery in 1871. Park The site was transferred to Romford Urban District Council in 1895 when the burial board was dissolved. The headstones were cleared in 1953 in order to create the park and name it in honour of the Coronation of Elizabeth II. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is an intergovernmental organisation of six independent member states whose principal function is to mark, record and maintain the graves and places of commemoration of Commonwealth of Nations military service members who died in the two World Wars. The commission is also responsible for commemorating Commonwealth civilians who died as a result of enemy action during the Second World War.
