Roland Richer
Roland Richer (born June 23, 1941) is a Canadian politician, who was a Parti Québécois member of the National Assembly of Quebec for Argenteuil electoral district from 2012 to 2014 Richer was formerly a schoolteacher and school principal. He was elected in a by-election held on June 11, 2012, which was triggered by the resignation of David Whissell on December 16, 2011, in a close race against Quebec Liberal Party candidate Lise Proulx. The result of the by-election was considered a surprise, as Argenteuil had been a safe seat for the Quebec Liberal Party for several decades. The National Assembly of Quebec (officially in french: link=no, Assemblée nationale du Québec) is the legislative body of the province of Quebec in Canada. Legislators are called MNAs (Members of the National Assembly; french: link=no, députés). Argenteuil is a provincial electoral district in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Saint-Colomban, Lachute and Brownsburg-Chatham. It was created for the 1867 election, and an electoral district of that name existed even earlier: see Argenteuil (Province of Canada). The territory of the Argenteuil electoral district in the 2011 electoral map is unchanged from its territory in the 2001 electoral map. David Whissell
David Whissell, BEng (born September 1, 1967) is a Canadian politician, businessman, engineer and former Quebec cabinet minister. Born in Montreal, Whissell received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the École polytechnique de Montréal in 1990. He worked as an engineer at Whissell Inc., in Lachute, and became the president and owner of Beton 344 Inc. in Saint-André-d'Argenteuil near Lachute, and the president and vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lachute. Prior to his entry into provincial politics, he was the president of the Liberal Party of Canada association in the Argenteuil region. He was later the member for Argenteuil in the National Assembly of Quebec as a member of the Quebec Liberal Party. 2012 Quebec General Election
The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canadian province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. The Parti Québécois were elected to a minority government, with Pauline Marois becoming the first woman to be Premier of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party took second place, with Premier Jean Charest losing his seat. The newly formed party Coalition Avenir Québec led by François Legault took third place, while Québec solidaire took 2 seats out of the 125.
