''Gypsy: A Musical Fable'' is a musical theatre, musical with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents. It is loosely based on the Gypsy: A Memoir, 1957 memoirs of striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, and focuses on her mother, Rose Thompson Hovick, Rose, whose name has become synonymous with "the ultimate stage mother, show business mother." Tommy Tune
Thomas James Tune (born February 28, 1939) is an American actor, dancer, singer, theatre director, producer, and choreographer. Over the course of his career, he has won ten Tony Awards, the National Medal of Arts, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Early life Tune was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to oil rig worker, horse trainer, and restaurateur Jim Tune and Eva Mae Clark along with his sister, Gracey. He attended Mirabeau B. Lamar High School, Houston and the Methodist-affiliated Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. He studied dance under Patsy Swayze in Houston. ''Sherry!'' is a musical with a book and lyrics by James Lipton and music by Laurence Rosenthal. The musical is based on the 1939 George S. Kaufman- Moss Hart play '' The Man Who Came to Dinner''. In 1967, following a short run on Broadway and poor reviews, the score to ''Sherry!'' was apparently lost, until being rediscovered at the Library of Congress more than thirty years later. A studio recording based on the rediscovered score was released in 2004. Production George Sanders originally was signed to play Whiteside, but when his wife, actress Benita Hume, became terminally ill with cancer, he withdrew from the project. ''On the Town'' is a musical with music by Leonard Bernstein and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, based on Jerome Robbins' idea for his 1944 ballet '' Fancy Free'', which he had set to Bernstein's music. ''Fidler Afn Dakh'' (פידלער אויפן דאך) is a Yiddish-language adaptation of the musical ''Fiddler on the Roof'' translated and adapted by Shraga Friedman. The adaptation revisits the 1894 collection of Yiddish short stories on which ''Fiddler on the Roof'' is based, about Tevye the Dairyman.
