Robert Sharpe (judge)
Robert James Sharpe, OC, FRSC (born December 4, 1945) is a Canadian lawyer, author, academic, and judge. He was dean of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law from 1990 to 1995 and a judge of the Court of Appeal for Ontario from 1999 to 2020. Early life Robert James Sharpe was born on December 4, 1945, in Brantford, Ontario, to Eleanor Jane (Cooper) and Ira Sutherland Sharpe. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario in 1966, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto in 1970, and a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 1974. Legal career He was called to the bar of Ontario in 1974 and practised law with the firm of MacKinnon, McTaggart (later McTaggart, Potts, Stone & Herridge) in the area of civil litigation. He taught at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law from 1976 to 1988. From 1988 to 1990, he was the Executive Legal Officer at the Supreme Court of Canada under Chief Justice Brian Dickson. Robert Sharpe (railway Contractor)
Robert Sharpe (1804-1868) was a contractor on railway projects in England, Wales and Brazil. He was also a noted farmer and stockbreeder on his estate, Hewelsfield Court, in Gloucestershire. He was born in Grindon, County Durham, England in 1804. He and his brothers John and Paul were later engaged in various railway works in England and Wales including Whiteball Tunnell on the Bristol and Exeter Railway, the South Devon Railway and the South Wales Railway. Robert Sharpe also completed works for Gloucester and Deane Forest Railway, Cornwall Railway and the Great Western Railway. In 1851, Robert had a steam powered flour and grist mill built in Chepstow, between the gas works and the railway embankment. He ran the mill in partnership with Mr. James Ireland, a cornfactor and miller from Bristol, under the name The Chepstow Steam Mill Company. Robert Ernest Sharpe (December 9, 1918 – December 4, 1997), nicknamed "Pepper", was an American Negro league pitcher for the Memphis Red Sox and Chicago American Giants in the 1940s. A native of Rena Lara, Mississippi, Sharpe was the oldest of 12 children. His career highlights included a no-hitter against the Kansas City Monarchs.
