Robert E. Pearlman
Robert Eugene Pearlman (September 16, 1939 – February 11, 2021) was an American explorer, graphic designer, author and publisher. He was primarily known for his work with the Maasai people of Kenya, where he conducted several cultural outreach expeditions in the late 20th and early 21st century. He was a board member of The Explorers Club and a 1998 recipient of the club's Sweeney Medal. Biography Pearlman was born on September 16, 1939, in Boothwyn, Pennsylvania. He graduated high school in 1957 in Carmel, New York. In 1970 Pearlman collaborated with his first wife Ruth (née Himelfarb) on a cookbook for homemade infant food. Ruth Pearlman (later Ruth Sember; she and Pearlman divorced in 1975) received her doctorate from Columbia University and went on to a career as a physicist and later a financial advisor before her death in June 2014. Eugene Wesley Roddenberry Sr. (August 19, 1921 – October 24, 1991) was an American television screenwriter and producer who created the science fiction series and fictional universe ''Star Trek.'' Born in El Paso, Texas, Roddenberry grew up in Los Angeles, where his father was a police officer. Roddenberry flew 89 combat missions in the United States Army Air Forces, Army Air Forces during World War II and worked as a commercial pilot after the war. Robert Zane Pearlman (born January 14, 1976) is an American space historian and the founder and editor of collectSPACE, a website devoted to news and information concerning space exploration and space-related artifacts and memorabilia, especially in popular culture. He is also a contributing writer to Space.com. Biography Pearlman was born in Livingston, New Jersey but considers West Orange, New Jersey his hometown. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park from 1994 to 1997 studying astronomy, physics and English. Floppy Trunk Syndrome
Floppy trunk syndrome (abbreviated FTS, also known as flaccid trunk paralysis) is a condition that causes trunk paralysis in African bush elephants. Initially observed in 1989, the syndrome primarily affected bull elephants in several select regions in Zimbabwe. Afflicted elephants exhibit paralysis in their trunk, often having to adapt to feed. The loss of their trunks' prehensile abilities results in malnutrition and possibly death. The condition is a result of degeneration of nerves in the trunk, and is suggested to be a result of either heavy metals or toxins. There is debate over whether the condition is reversible. History Floppy trunk syndrome was initially observed in 1989 on Fothergill Island, in Matusadona National Park, Zimbabwe, near Lake Kariba.
