River Landscape With Ferry
''River Landscape with Ferry'' (1649) is an oil on canvas painting by the Dutch landscape painter Salomon van Ruysdael. It is an example of Dutch Golden Age painting and is now in the collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.. This painting was owned by Jacques Goudstikker and was restituted to his heirs in 2006. Jacques Goudstikker was a Jewish art dealer whose works were seized and taken to Germany after his death as part of war booty. The painting was restituted to the Netherlands after the war ( RCE). It was lent by the RCE to various museums on long-term loans before being given to the Rijksmuseum in 1960, where it had featured in its Gallery of Honor for years. The painting was selected as one of 120 highlights in the booklet ''120 Paintings from the Rijksmuseum''. In 2006 it was finally restituted to the Goudstikker heirs and since 2007 it has been part of the collection of the National Gallery of Art. It was part of an exhibition ''Reclaimed: paintings ... 2006 Goudstikker Restitution Of 202 Paintings
The ''2006 Goudstikker restitution of 202 paintings'' is a binding decision by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (Netherlands), Dutch Ministry of Culture on a WWII restitution case between the heirs of Jacques Goudstikker and the agency in charge of the Dutch National art collection (called Instituut Collectie Nederland). The 202 paintings are just a fraction of the property once owned by Goudstikker that was seized during the German occupation in 1940. After post-war discovery in Germany of much of the collection, it was returned to the Dutch State by the Monuments Men but despite repeated attempts by Goudstikker's widow, never given back to the heirs. To finance further recovery activities through provenance research, much of the 2006 group of paintings have since been sold by the Goudstikker heirs, and a few were bought back by the Dutch State. The Alte Pinakothek (, ''Old Pinakothek'') is an art museum located in the Kunstareal area in Munich, Germany. It is one of the oldest galleries in the world and houses a significant collection of Old Master paintings. The name Alte (Old) Pinakothek refers to the time period covered by the collection—from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century.
