Rita May (actress)
Rita May (born 9 May 1942) is an English actress. She is known for her roles as Mags in the ITV children's drama ''Children's Ward'', Margaret in the Sky One sitcom ''Trollied'', as well as Julie "Nana" Booth in the Channel 4 drama ''Ackley Bridge''. Career May began her career as a singer on the working men's club circuit in and around South Yorkshire. She featured in the television adaptation of Barry Hines's ''The Price of Coal'', a ''Play for Today'' first broadcast in 1977, and as Jimmy Kemp's mother in Hines's scripted nuclear war drama '' Threads'' in 1984. She has also appeared in television series such as ''Early Doors'' and '' Drop Dead Gorgeous'', and radio programmes including ''Ed Reardon's Week'' and ''The Blackburn Files''. Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire, England, situated south of Leeds and east of Manchester. The city is the administrative centre of the City of Sheffield. ''Ed Reardon's Week'' is a sitcom on BBC Radio 4 recorded semi-naturalistically in the style of a radio drama. It concerns the story of a curmudgeonly middle-aged writer described in the show's publicity material as an "author, pipesmoker, consummate fare-dodger and master of the abusive email". ''Juliet Bravo'' is a television in the United Kingdom, British television police procedural drama series, first broadcast on 30 August 1980, that ran for six series and a total of 88 episodes on BBC One, BBC1. When Saturday Comes (film)
''When Saturday Comes'' is a 1996 British film directed by Maria Giese and starring Sean Bean and Emily Lloyd. The film was released in March 1996, and was distributed by Guild Film Distribution. The soundtrack includes a variety of classic music tracks as well as newly commissioned songs. The score was composed by Anne Dudley and the soundtrack includes contributions from Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet and Sheffield artists including Def Leppard's Joe Elliott who performs on two new tracks: "When Saturday Comes" and the instrumental "Jimmy's Theme". ''Looks and Smiles'' is a 1981 British drama film directed by Ken Loach. It is based on the novel of the same name, written by Barry Hines. The film was entered into the 1981 Cannes Film Festival, where Loach won the Young Cinema Award. The Gamekeeper (film)
''The Gamekeeper'' is a 1980 British drama film directed by Ken Loach. It is based on a novel of the same name by Barry Hines. It competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1980 Cannes Film Festival. As with Barry Hines's other scripts, most of the dialogue is in Yorkshire dialect. The film was produced by Associated Television, which broadcast to the English Midlands. On its release, it was only shown in the ATV area and at a few film festivals. The dialogue in the film was difficult for residents in some areas of the Midlands to understand. After this very limited release, the film fell into obscurity and became one of Loach's rarest films. In September 2007, it was released on DVD for the first time in the Ken Loach Collection boxset and again became widely available. Poppy Lee Friar (born 16 April 1995) is an English actress. Ackley Bridge (series 3)
The third series of the British television drama series ''Ackley Bridge'' began broadcasting on 18 June 2019 on Channel 4, and ended on 6 August 2019. The series follows the lives of the staff and pupils at the fictional multi-cultural academy school Ackley Bridge College, in the fictitious Yorkshire mill town of Ackley Bridge.
