Richardson Stadium (Kingston)
Richardson Stadium, officially named George Taylor Richardson Memorial Stadium, is the football stadium for Queen's University, in Kingston, Ontario. The stadium is primarily used for canadian football but also has hosted other sporting events such as soccer and rugby. There has been a stadium at Queen's University since 1921, all using the same name. A second stadium was built in 1971 to replace the first. This was replaced in 2016 when the third and most current version was opened. The current stadium has a seating capacity of 8,500. The facilities are named in memory of George Taylor Richardson, a Queen's graduate renowned for his athleticism and sportsmanship who died in the First World War. Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada, on the northeastern end of Lake Ontario. It is at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River, the south end of the Rideau Canal. Guelph Gryphons
The Guelph Gryphons are the athletic teams that represent the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The university's varsity teams compete in the Ontario University Athletics conference of the U Sports (OUA's), and, where applicable, in the west division. The university teams are often referred to as the Gryphs, which is short for the school's mascot, Gryph, the gryphon. The Canada national rugby league team represents Canada in international rugby league football tournaments. History 1987–2000: Origins Rugby league was first introduced to Canada in the 1900s but was quickly outlawed by Rugby Union officials and thus became Canadian Football. It was not until the late 1980s that rugby league was re-introduced to Canada at an amateur level, when a short-lived 4-team domestic competition, known as the Tri-Counties Rugby League, was established. Colonial Cup (rugby League)
The Colonial Cup is an international rugby league football challenge match played between the United States Tomahawks and the Canada Wolverines. The inaugural match was played in September 2010 at the Richardson Memorial Stadium at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. The USA Tomahawks won 22–16. In 2011 the Colonial Cup was expanded to a 'home and away' series. Each team won their home fixture. The U.S. won the first game 18–2 with Canada securing their first win in the second match with an 18–16 victory. The U.S. won the series by an aggregate score of 34–20. In 2012, the Cup was again contested over 2 games, with the USA Tomahawks winning both games. In 2013 the series expanded to a best 2 of 3 series. Queen's Golden Gaels
The Queen's Gaels (also known as the Queen's Golden Gaels) is the athletics program representing Queen's University at Kingston, Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The main athletics facilities include Richardson Stadium (Kingston), Richardson Memorial Stadium, the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre, Nixon Field and Tindall Field.
