Richard Wagner (writer)
Richard Wagner (10 April 1952 – 14 March 2023) was a Romanian-born German novelist. He published a number of short stories, novels and essays. Life and work Wagner was a member of one of Romania's German minorities, called Banat Swabians, like his wife, Herta Müller He studied German and Romanian literature at Timișoara University. He then worked as a German language school teacher and as a journalist, and published poetry and short stories in German. He was in 1972 a co-founder and member of the Aktionsgruppe Banat, a German-speaking literary activist society. In 1987, Wagner and Müller left Romania for West Berlin, to escape communist oppression and censorship in Nicolae Ceaușescu's Romania. They separated in 1989. Lovrin
Lovrin (, formerly ''Lorandhausen''; , formerly ''Lóránthalma'') is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of a single village, Lovrin. It also included three other villages – Gottlob, Tomnatic, and Vizejdia – until 2004, when they were split off to form Gottlob and Tomnatic communes. The commune itself is a significant railway junction served by local railway lines radiating in five directions. It is an agro-industrial and urban center for the surrounding region. Until the early 1990s, the majority of inhabitants were of German descent, but emigration has significantly reduced their numbers. History Lovrin was documented in 1466 as ''Lóránthalma''. Later it was also known as ''Lóránt'' or ''Lórántfalva''. In 1529 it was looted by the Turks, which led to the refuge of the population for a while. Georg Dehio Book Prize
The Georg Dehio Book Prize (''Georg Dehio-Buchpreis'') is a biennial literary award for authors who, "in their literary, scholarly or public work, address the themes of the common culture and history of the German people and their Eastern neighbors at a high level and from a broad perspective." Described as "prestigious" by the Austrian state broadcasting system ORF, the Dehio Prize is funded by the German government through the Office of the Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media (''Beauftragte der Bundesregierung for Kultur und Medien''), the competition being administered by the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe (''Deutsches Kulturforums östliches Europa''), a state-endowed agency.
