Bruno Miguel Fernandes Ribeiro (born 22 October 1975) is a Portuguese former football manager and player. A midfielder with a powerful left-foot strike, he began his playing career with hometown club Vitória Setúbal from 1994 to 1997, before he had four years in England with Leeds United and Sheffield United. He returned to Portugal to play for União de Leiria, Beira-Mar and Santa Clara, before spending 2003 to 2010 back with Vitória Setúbal. Julio Francis Ribeiro (born 5 May 1929, in Bombay) is a retired Indian police officer and civil servant. He held increasingly responsible positions during his career, and led the Punjab Police during part of the Punjab insurgency periods. In 1987, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award for his services. Career Ribeiro joined the Indian Police Service in 1953 and rose to be the Commissioner of Mumbai Police from 1982 to 1986. He was promoted to Director General of Central Reserve Police Force, then to Director General Police of Gujarat. Ribeiro served as Director General of Punjab Police during its worst years of terrorism in Punjab. Jorge Miguel de Oliveira Ribeiro (born 9 November 1981) is a Portuguese retired professional footballer. Mainly a left-back, he could also play as a wing-back or midfielder. Fernando Ribeiro (born August 26, 1974) is a Portuguese singer, vocalist, and lyricist for the Portuguese gothic metal band Moonspell. In addition to this activity, he is also a writer and translator. Maria Fernanda Moreira Ribeiro, GCIH (; born 23 June 1969), is a long-distance runner born in Penafiel, Portugal. The pinnacle of her career was at the 1996 Summer Olympics when she won the women's 10000 m gold medal, establishing a new Olympic record of 31:01.63. Fabian Defu Ribeiro SCOB (19 June 1933 – 1 December 1986) was a South African doctor and anti-apartheid activist who, along with his wife Florence, was assassinated by South African government forces. Ribeiro studied at the University of Fort Hare and the University of Natal, and in 1961 opened a surgery practice in Mamelodi, where he worked until his death. He had initially considered the Roman Catholic priesthood but changed his mind, while remaining a devoted practising Catholic. During the 1970’s he recorded evidence of police brutality by taking pictures of victims who came to him for treatment. In 1980 he was imprisoned for a few months on charges of treason, but was successfully defended by George Bizos. On 1 December 1986, the Ribeiros were gunned down at the kitchen door of their house. Diogo Ribeiro (d. 16 August 1533) was a Portuguese cartographer and explorer who worked most of his life in Spain, where he was known as Diego Ribero. He worked on the official maps of the ''Padrón Real'' (or ''Padrón General'') from 1518 to 1532. He also made navigation instruments, including astrolabes and quadrants.
