Resia Schor
Resia Schor (December 5, 1910 in Lublin, Poland – November 26, 2006 in New York City) was a Polish-born artist who lived and worked in New York City from 1941 until her death in 2006. Early life Resia Schor (née Ainstein) was born near Lublin, Poland in 1910. Her Jewish family, though from a traditionally observant background with ties to Hasidim, was rather urban and Polish, and her mother believed she had right to pursue advanced studies in art despite her gender. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. There she met the painter and sculptor Ilya Schor; they lived in Paris and married there at the outbreak of the Second World War. on December 3, 1941, they came to the United States and settled in New York City. Ryszard Horowitz
Ryszard Horowitz (born May 5, 1939) is a Polish-born American photographer recognized as a pioneer of special effects photography that predates digital imaging. Early life Horowitz was born in Kraków, Poland on May 5, 1939. Four months later, because they were Jewish, Ryszard's entire family was forced into ghettos following the German invasion of Poland. From September 1944, he was imprisoned at the Auschwitz concentration camp and later became known as one of the youngest known people to survive Auschwitz and be included on Schindler's list. At war's end, five-year old Ryszard was found in an orphanage by his mother and reunited with his family. His was among the few Jewish families to re-establish themselves in Krakow. ''Craft Horizons'' is a periodical magazine that documents and exhibits crafts, craft artists, and other facets of the field of American craft. The magazine was founded by Aileen Osborn Webb and published from 1941 to 1979. It included editorials, features, technical information, letters from readers, and photographs of craft artists, their tools, and their works.
