Republican Alternative Party (Azerbaijan)
The Republican Alternative Party (, ReAl or REAL) is a movement and political party in Azerbaijan that was established in January 2009 and officially registered on 1 September 2020. History According to the constitution, which was amended in a referendum in 2009, "one person being able to be elected president more than twice" set REAL in motion. REAL saw this as damage and betrayal of the foundations of the republic. The REAL Movement was founded on Facebook in 2009. Ilgar Mammadov, who wanted to run in the 2013 presidential election, attended rallies in Ismayilli. Ilgar Mammadov was sentenced to seven years in prison for violating public order. Ilgar Mammadov
Ilgar Mammadov (; born June 14, 1970) is an opposition politician in Azerbaijan, and one of the leaders of the Republican Alternative Party. Mammadov was considered a likely candidate for the Presidential elections in October 2013, but was arrested in February 2013, prior to the race, in a move that was widely seen as politically motivated. In March 2014, Mammadov was sentenced to 7 years in jail. He was released from prison on August 13, 2018. On 23 April 2020, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has acquitted Ilgar Mammadov and 300,000 manat compensation will be paid. Life He was born in 1970. After serving in the Soviet Army from 1988 to 1989, he studied history at Moscow State University and political science at Central European University in Budapest. 2024 Azerbaijani Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan on 1 September 2024. They were originally scheduled to take place in November 2024, but were brought forward after parliament was dissolved in June 2024. The New Azerbaijan Party of President Ilham Aliyev won a majority of 68 seats. Campaigning was minimal, the leading opposition Azerbaijani Popular Front Party did not take part, and the election was criticized for being undemocratic. Background The elections were originally scheduled to take place in November 2024. However, in late June 2024 MPs asked President Ilham Aliyev to dissolve the National Assembly and call elections in September to avoid holding them during the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference to be hosted in Baku from 11 to 22 November. Baku City Executive Power
The Executive Power of the Baku City, informally called the mayoralty of Baku or the Baku Soviet (Baksovet), is the executive authority of Azerbaijan's capital, Baku. Its seat is in the Baroque building, built in the beginning of the 20th century. During Soviet era the Executive Power of the Baku City was named the Executive Committee of the Baku City Workers' Deputies Council (in 1939–1977), then the Executive Committee of the Baku City National Deputies' Council (in 1977–1991). Ismayilli
Ismayilli () is a city and the capital of the Ismayilli District of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 28,776 in 2021 History The territory of the district was part of the Albania state, which was formed in the late 4th century and early 3rd century BC, long before it was erected. Historical facts prove that Mehranis, who belonged to Javanshir, had created Girdiman's prince in Ismayilli territory. Javanshir was of this generation. The National Assembly (), also transliterated as Milli Mejlis, is the legislative branch of government in Azerbaijan. The unicameral National Assembly has 125 deputies: previously 100 members were elected for five-year terms in single-seat constituency, constituencies and 25 members were elected by proportional representation; as of the latest election, however, all 125 deputies are returned from single-member constituencies.
