Redditt is an unincorporated community in Unorganized Kenora District in northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is on the MacFarlane River, and located at the northern terminus of Ontario Highway 658, north of Kenora. Redditt is also the name of the surrounding geographic township that includes the community. A designated place served by a local services board, Redditt had a population of 139 in the 2021 Canadian census. Demographics In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Redditt had a population of 139 living in 76 of its 170 total private dwellings, a change of from its 2016 population of 116. Ontario Highway 658
Secondary Highway 658, commonly referred to as Highway 658, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Kenora District. The highway extends between the city of Kenora and the community of Redditt. For a decade, Highway 658 was numbered as Highway 666, leading to numerous sign thefts and a petition by members of a church on the route. Kenora
Kenora (), previously named Rat Portage (french: Portage-aux-Rats), is a city situated on the Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, close to the Manitoba boundary, and about east of Winnipeg by road. It is the seat of Kenora District. The history of the name extends beyond the time of white settlers arriving in the region. The name Rat Portage had its origin in the Ojibwa name Waszush Onigum, which roughly translated, means portage to the country of the muskrats. A shortened and somewhat corrupted version, Rat Portage, was adopted by the Hudson’s Bay Company in naming their post, then located on Old Fort Island on the Winnipeg River. When the post was moved to the mainland and a town grew up around it, the name Rat Portage was assumed by the community. Unorganized Kenora District is an unorganized area in northwestern Ontario, Canada, in Kenora District. Constituting 98.39 percent of the district's land area, yet only 10.93 percent of its population, it is essentially the remainder of the district's territory after all incorporated cities, municipalities, townships, Indian reserves, and Indian settlements have been excluded. It is by far the largest municipal-equivalent level census division in Ontario, covering over 35 percent of the entire provincial land area, yet only about 0.05 percent of the population of Ontario. MacFarlane River (Ontario)
The MacFarlane River is a river in Unorganized Kenora District in northwestern Ontario, Canada and a tributary of the Winnipeg River. Locally it has been called the "Black River", a reference to the dark tannin stained water. Course The MacFarlane River begins at Rocky Lake and heads southwest reaching Bluff Lake and the unincorporated place of Brinka. It continues southwest to Grindstone Lake, where it takes in the left tributary Boot Creek, then to Basket Lake and the community of Redditt. The river continues southwest to Corn Lake, where it takes in the left tributary Talbot Creek, passes out, takes in the left tributary Whitney Creek and reaches Ena Lake, where it takes in the right tributary Octopus Creek.
