Red Guitars
Red Guitars were an English indie rock band active from 1982 to 1986. Based in Hull, Red Guitars' first single "Good Technology" was a minor hit, selling 60,000 copies. Their singles "Marimba Jive" and "Be With Me" both reached number one on the UK Indie Chart. History Jerry Kidd (born Jeremy Kidd, vocals) and Hallam Lewis (guitarist) met in 1979 at a Community Arts programme in Hull. The two formed the short-lived project, Carnage in Poland. After several line-up changes, including the addition of Mark Douglas, the band changed their name to the Czechs, billing themselves as 'eastern European reggae'. After more line-up changes, including the departure of Douglas, the Czechs abandoned their name and reggae sound, becoming Red Guitars. Playing a mixture of punk, blues, electrified folk and African rhythms, Red Guitars built a small but loyal national following, playing mostly benefit shows for left-wing causes. Kingston upon Hull, usually abbreviated to Hull, is a port city and unitary authorities of England, unitary authority in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. A-side And B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. Remix
A remix (or reorchestration) is a piece of media which has been altered or contorted from its original state by adding, removing, or changing pieces of the item. A song, piece of artwork, book, video, poem, or photograph can all be remixes. The only characteristic of a remix is that it appropriates and changes other materials to create something new. The Planet Wilson
The Planet Wilson were an indie rock band from Hull, that came from the breakup of the Red Guitars. They were signed to Virgin Records and released two albums in the late 1980s. Biography Two of the former Red Guitars band members, Hallam Lewis and Lou Howard, formed the band after the Red Guitars split up in 1985. They were joined by Grant Ardis and latterly Jonah Lacey-Hatton for gigs (formerly of That Noble Porpoise) on drums. Lou Howard played bass and Hallam Lewis was on guitar and vocals. In 1988 they released the album ''In the Best of All Possible Worlds'' (on Virgin), on which, according to ''Trouser Press'', "the three bandmembers occasionally seem to be playing different songs". In 1989 ''Not Drowning but Waving'' (on Records of Achievement) was released. ''Trouser Press'' described the second album as "uncommon pop music with claws". Pukkelpop is an annual music festival that takes place near the city of Hasselt, Belgium, in mid- to late August. It is held within a large enclosure of fields and woodland—adjacent to a dual carriageway called ''Kempische Steenweg''—in the village of Kiewit, approximately 7 km north of Hasselt. Party Day were an English goth/ indie rock band formed in 1981 in Wombwell near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, originally a four-piece consisting of guitarists Martin Steele, Greg Firth, bassist Carl Firth and drummer, Mick Baker.
