Rasa Juknevičienė
Rasa Juknevičienė (née Urbonaitė, born 26 January 1958) is a Lithuanian politician and paediatrician, who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019 European Parliament election, 2019. She served as Minister of Defense of Lithuania since 2008 to 2012. She is a member of center right Homeland Union. Early life and education Juknevičienė is a graduate of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) and worked as a doctor until 1992. Political career Career in national politics With interruptions, Juknevičienė was a member of the Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) from 1996 until 2019. During her time in parliament, she held positions as Deputy Chair of the Committee on National Security and Defense; and Head of the Seimas Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. European Parliament
The European Parliament (EP) is one of the two legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Žaliakalnis
Žaliakalnis (literally, "the green hill") is a neighbourhood and Elderships of Lithuania, eldership () in Lithuania's second largest city, Kaunas. Žaliakalnis is located north of the old town and the city center area, between the Neris and Girstupis valleys. It is one of the largest residential areas in Kaunas, with a population of 38,480 in 2006. History Žaliakalnis became part of Kaunas in 1919, when the city became the temporary capital of Lithuania. Kaunas expanded rapidly and the need for a comprehensive plan became evident by 1922. The Denmark, Danish engineer M. Frandsen was invited to devise this plan. In Frandsen's plan, Žaliakalnis was to be an important part of Kaunas, where all the city's administrative functions would be located. 2019 European Parliament Election
The 2019 European Parliament election was held in the European Union (EU) between 23 and 26 May 2019. It was the ninth parliamentary election since the first direct elections in 1979. A total of 751 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) were elected to represent more than 512 million people from 28 member states. In February 2018, the European Parliament had voted to decrease the number of MEPs from 751 to 705 if the United Kingdom were to withdraw from the European Union on 29 March 2019. Homeland Union
The Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (, TS–LKD), also colloquially known as the Conservatives (), is a centre-right political party in Lithuania. It has 18,000 members and 28 of 141 seats in the Seimas.
