ROMARM
ROMARM is a Romanian state-owned defense company and Romania's main supplier for defense technique and services. The company owns 15 factories and a research institute. Subsidiaries Arsenal Reșița Arsenal Reșița was founded in 1972 in order to produce medium and large cannons. Due to the decrease in sales, the company started offering civilian services as well in 1990. The company became part of ROMARM in 2001. The factory, based in Reșița, produces today various types of artillery and anti-aircraft guns. Carfil Carfil was founded in 1922 as "Machinery and Foundry Factory Dumitru Voina". TR-85
The TR-85 is a main battle tank designed for the Romanian Army, armed forces of Romania. Based on the T-54/T-55 operators and variants#Romania, TR-77-580, the TR-85 tank was developed from 1978 to 1985 and produced from 1986 until 1990. A modernization program was initiated in March 1994 to upgrade the TR-85 tanks to NATO standards. The result was the TR-85M1 Bizonul ("Bison") List of main battle tanks by generation, third-generation main battle tank, currently the most modern tank in service with the Romanian Land Forces. Mowag Piranha V
The Piranha V infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) is the fifth generation variant of the Mowag Piranha family of vehicles. It was designed by General Dynamics European Land Systems - Mowag GmbH. The first prototype was completed in 2008. It was first introduced during the Eurosatory exhibition in 2010. Development The Piranha V was developed by General Dynamics UK and Mowag. It was designed to meet the British Army requirements of the Future Rapid Effect System (FRES) program. Arms Industry In Romania
Before 1989, Romania was among the top ten arms exporters in the world, however its arms industry declined considerably during the 1990s. Exports fell from roughly $1 billion before 1989 to about $43 million in 2006, and the number of employees also fell from 220,000 in 1990 to 20,000 in 2009. Sales to the Romanian Armed Forces have plunged after Romania's accession to NATO in 2004, as factories continue to produce Warsaw Pact-caliber weapons and ammunition, which are incompatible with their Western counterparts. As of 2009, sales are roughly evenly divided between the Romanian state and foreign customers such as European Union and Arab countries such as Egypt, Algeria and Iraq. Primer (firearms)
In firearms and artillery, the primer () is the chemical and/or device responsible for initiating the propellant combustion that will propel the projectiles out of the gun barrel. In early black powder guns such as muzzleloaders, the primer was essentially the same chemical as the main propellant (albeit usually in a finer-powdered form), but poured into an external flash pan, where it could be ignited by an ignition source such as a slow match or a flintlock, though some muzzleloaders have primers like cap gun caps. This external powder was connected through a small opening at the rear of the gun barrel that led to the main charge within the barrel.
