Queen Square (Dartmouth)
Queen Square is an office building in downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, part of the Halifax Regional Municipality. At 18 floors (there is no 13th floor), Queen Square is the tallest building in the downtown Dartmouth area, and is located on Alderney Drive across from Alderney Gate. The building was constructed in 1975. The Government of Canada is the largest tenant in the building, occupying 11 of 18 floors, with Environment Canada (including the Atlantic division of the Meteorological Service of Canada and the Canadian Hurricane Centre) being the largest, occupying 8 floors. Presently, the 19th floor, which was the former home of Patterson Broadcasters CFDR and CFRQ (Q104) radio and later the Meteorological Service of Canada, is occupied by M5 Marketing Communications; the MSC moved to the 3rd floor after safety concerns arose following Hurricane Juan of 2003. Downtown Dartmouth
Downtown Dartmouth is the main central business district of Dartmouth in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is part of the Capital District of the Province. Business and buildings Located in downtown Dartmouth are Alderney Gate which houses a branch of the Halifax Public Libraries and other municipal office space, the Alderney Landing market, gallery and theatre building, the 19-story highrise office building Queen Square, as well as the main branches of the Royal Bank of Canada and CIBC. Hurricane Juan
Hurricane Juan was a significant tropical cyclone which caused extensive damage to parts of Atlantic Canada, being the tenth named storm and the sixth hurricane of the 2003 Atlantic hurricane season. Juan formed southeast of Bermuda on September 24 from a tropical wave that had tracked across the subtropical Atlantic Ocean. It tracked northward and strengthened over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, reaching Category 2 strength on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale on September 27. The Canadian Hurricane Centre (CHC; ) is an organisation that monitors and warns of the threat of tropical cyclones such as hurricanes and tropical storms. CHC is a division of the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC), which is in turn a branch of Environment and Climate Change Canada. Alderney Gate
Alderney Landing is a convention centre, art gallery, market, events plaza and theatre facility in Downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It was opened in May 1999. The theatre hosts many concerts, conventions and other events, and is the home of Halifax Theatre for Young People, San Family Productions, Coastal Dance, Maritime Marionettes. The market on the lower level of Alderney Landing is home to a weekly farmers market, the Craig Art Gallery, Evan's Seafood Restaurant, the Casaroma Wellness Centre, Meadowvale Meat Market, a Noggin's Corner outlet and a Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation retail store.
