Quality Records
Quality Records was a Canadian entertainment company which released music albums in Canada on behalf of American record labels. They also released recordings by Canadian artists. The company operated between 1950 and 1985 with offices in Toronto. The company also ran from 1990 to 1998 as "Quality Special Products" with Offices both in Canada and the United States. History In the 1950s and 1960s it was commonplace for American labels without Canadian branches to lease their recordings out to Canadian-based labels that would release the songs on their behalf north of the border. Quality was one of the largest and most visible of these companies; aside from the Quality brand itself, several other sister labels such as Reo were employed for this purpose. US labels distributed via Quality included Essex Records, Chess Records and Sun Records. Essex Records
Essex Records was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1951 by Dave Miller (producer), David Miller primarily to record contemporary country and western, rhythm and blues as well as jazz and Gospel music, gospel. Jack Howard was the promotion manager. The label had little popular success, but is known for releasing early Bill Haley & His Comets recordings such as "Rock the Joint" (1952) and "Crazy Man Crazy", the latter of which was the first rock and roll recording to make the American record charts when it was released in 1953. The label also scored success in 1954 with Eddie Calvert's recording of "O mein Papa". The label also released the first 12-inch album of rock and roll music with its 1954 Haley compilation ''Rock with Bill Haley and the Comets''. Warlock Records
Warlock Records is a record label based in New York City that was founded in 1985 by Adam Levy (born 1962), whose father was record producer Morris Levy. Artists that recorded for Warlock Records include Jungle Brothers, Royal House, Skinny Boys, C-Bo, Esham, Tuff Crew, Blac Haze, Juvenile, Half a Mill, Poison Clan, The Last Mr. Bigg, and Kim Waters. In the 1990s Warlock Records acquired the labels Sleeping Bag Records, Fresh Records, Streetwise Records/Party Time, Ligosa Records, Quality Records USA, Dangerous Records, Pump, N-Coded Music, N2K, Strictly Hype, Underground Construction, High Power Records, Aureus, and Cheetah Records. In September 2009, Warlock Records and all of its acquired labels were sold to Phase One Network, a music-asset management company that now controls over 20 labels in the pop, hip hop, dance, jazz, and R&B genres. Richard Clayderman
Richard Clayderman (; born Philippe Pagès , 28 December 1953 in Paris) is a French pianist who has released numerous albums including the compositions of Paul de Senneville, Olivier Toussaint and Marc Minier, instrumental renditions of popular music, rearrangements of movie soundtracks, ethnic music, and easy-listening arrangements of popular works of classical music. Early life Clayderman learned piano from his father, an accordion teacher. At the age of twelve, he was accepted into the Conservatoire de Paris, where he won great acclaim in his later adolescent years. Financial difficulties, precipitated by his father's illness, forestalled a promising career as a classical pianist. Don Cherry
Donald Stewart Cherry (born February 5, 1934) is a Canadian former ice hockey player, coach, and television commentator. He played one game in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Boston Bruins. After concluding a playing career in the American Hockey League, he coached the Bruins for five seasons leading the team to four division titles and two appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals. From 1986 to 2019, Cherry co-hosted '' Coach's Corner''—a segment aired during CBC's Saturday-night NHL broadcast ''Hockey Night in Canada'', with Ron MacLean. CB Milton, aka Clarence Bekker (born Clarence Becker Milton, 11 April 1968, in Suriname), is a Dutch electronic music vocalist, who became known in the early 1990s. He is best known for the singles " It's a Loving Thing", "Send Me an Angel" and "Open Your Heart". In the UK Singles Chart, " It's a Loving Thing" reached No. 34 in a remixed version in March 1995, and " Hold On (If You Believe in Love)" peaked at No. 62 in August that year. BKS (band)
BKS was a Canadian techno group created by radio DJ Chris Sheppard, with Hennie Bekker and Greg Kavanagh (BKS = Bekker, Kavanagh, Sheppard). They were best known for collaborating with hockey personality Don Cherry to create the song "Rock Em Sock Em Techno". History BKS worked with Don Cherry on the song "Rock Em Sock Em Techno". The resulting video was named by MuchMusic as the worst video of 1993; however, the video sold in excess of 550,000 copies. BKS recorded three albums of contemporary techno. In 1993, the group released the single "Dreamcatcher", which was a hit on the Canadian Dance chart. The song's music video was nominated for a MuchMusic Video Award for "Best Dance Music Video". The group's other hits included "Take Control" and "The Square Dance Song" (a collaboration with Ashley MacIsaac). Hennie Bekker
Hennie Bekker (born 1934) is a Zambian-born composer, arranger, producer and keyboardist based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His work includes jazz fusion, film scoring, new-age and techno. Bekker won a Juno Award for his work with techno-driven trio BKS. Bekker composed, arranged (in the case of the public domain classical works), and performed the soft melodies and the nature-driven environmental music on the first 14 albums of Dan Gibson's ''Solitudes - Exploring Nature with Music'' series, including the 1989 best-selling, quadruple-platinum ''Harmony''. He was named "one of the most prolific and successful figures in contemporary Canadian pop music" by ''Billboard''. The Beau-Marks
The Beau-Marks were a Canadian rock music group formed in 1958 in Montreal, Quebec. Their first release, the April 1959 single "Rockin' Blues" b/w "Moonlight Party", came out under the name The Del-Tones, but the group changed their name soon afterward in a nod to the Bomarc missile. Their breakthrough hit was "Clap Your Hands," which hit #1 in Canada and Australia, peaked at #45 on the US ''Billboard'' pop charts, and #40 on '' Cashbox''. The tune was also released in French as "Frappe Tes Mains" and a Quebec version as "Tape des mains", lyrics by late Michel A. Lebel, as one of Rock n' Roll Queen Lucie Marotte's finale favorites. "Every Shade of Blue" is a 1995 song by English musical duo Bananarama, from their seventh album, '' Ultra Violet''. After appearing as a B-side in the promotional single " I Found Love", the song was officially released as lead single on 21 August 1995 only in Australia, Japan and dance radio station in US. Bananarama did not have a major-label contract at the time. Background The sentiments and sound of the song are melancholic and diverge from the upbeat nature of the majority of their hits. "Every Shade of Blue" reached number 124 in Australia and number 41 on ''Billboard''s Hot Dance Singles Sales chart in the United States. In 2010, Bananarama re-recorded the song. Yvon Éthier better known as Patrick Norman (born September 10, 1946) is a Canadian country musician. He sings both in French and English and has had hits in Quebec and in the rest of Canada. In 1970, Norman's single "Love is All" appeared on the RPM Top 50 Canadian Chart. His song, "Let's Try Once More", was nominated for a 1978 Juno Award in the Juno Award for Single of the Year category.
