Preston Lake is a community located in the town of Whitchurch–Stouffville in the Regional Municipality of York in Ontario, Canada. The community is centred on Preston Lake, a natural glacier kettle lake, immediately north-east of the intersection of Bloomington Road and Woodbine Avenue, east of Highway 404, near Aurora. The Preston Lake community has approximately 700 residents divided into three distinct sub-communities: the North Shore, the Association of North Shore Ratepayers (private gated community); Preston Lake Beach Club on the west shore (luxury estate properties); and the Preston Lake South Shore Property Owners Association (upper middle-class). The Pennsylvania Dutch ( Pennsylvania Dutch: ), also known as Pennsylvania Germans, are a cultural group formed by German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. They emigrated primarily from German-speaking territories of Europe, mainly from the Palatinate, also from Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, and Rhineland in Germany as well as the Netherlands, Switzerland, and France's Alsace-Lorraine region. Peter Reesor
Peter Reesor (December 25, 1775 – November 16, 1854) was one of the original settlers of Markham, Ontario. Peter Reesor was born December 25, 1775, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Christian Reesor (1747–1806) and Veronica (Fanny) Reiff (1751–1818). Reesor's grandparents Peter Rieser (1713-1804) and Elizabeth Hershey had moved from Switzerland to Bavaria and then to America in 1739. First visit to Canada At the close of the American Revolution, many pacifist Mennonites left the newly formed United States in loyalty to the British Crown which guaranteed them exemption from military service. In 1798, Peter Reesor was appointed by his family and community to travel to Upper Canada and explore newly opened lands for settlement. Hessians ( or ) were German soldiers who served as auxiliaries to the British Army during the American Revolutionary War. The term is an American synecdoche for all Germans who fought on the British side, since 65% came from the German states of Hesse-Kassel and Hesse-Hanau. The York Regional Police (YRP) are a law enforcement organization that serves over 1.1 million residents in the York Region of Ontario, Canada, located north of Toronto. Vandorf is a hamlet located in the town of Whitchurch–Stouffville, Ontario, in Canada. It is the most westerly settlement within the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. With a population of approximately 722, Vandorf consists mainly of estate residential homes and farms. History Vandorf was founded in the 19th century by the Van Nostrand family. The town was originally named "Brookvale", but the name had to be changed when postal service became available owing to a conflict with another Ontario community of the same name.
