Premio Lo Nuestro 1993
The 5th Lo Nuestro Awards ceremony, presented by the Univision and ''Billboard'' magazine, honored the best Latin music of 1992 and 1993 and took place on May 20, 1993, at a live presentation held at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida. The ceremony was broadcast in the United States and Latin America by Univision. During the ceremony, twenty categories were presented. Winners were announced at the live event and included Cuban-American singer Jon Secada and Tejano performer Selena, each receiving three awards, and Juan Luis Guerra y 440, La Mafia and Jerry Rivera, each receiving two awards. Among its honors, Secada won the award for "Pop Album of the Year," La Mafia and Selena shared the award for "Regional Mexican Album of the Year," and Rivera won the award for "Tropical/Salsa Album of the Year." Knight International Center
The James L. Knight Center is a contemporary entertainment and convention complex located in Downtown Miami, Florida. Located within the Miami Central Business District, the venue opened in 1982. The complex is named after famed newspaper publisher, James L. Knight. Since its opening, the complex has hosted many business, entertainment and political events. The Lo Nuestro Awards or Premios Lo Nuestro ( Spanish for "Our Thing") is a Spanish-language awards show honoring the best of Latin music, presented by Univision, a Spanish-language television network based in the United States. The awards began in 1989. The artist with the most Premios Lo Nuestro awards is Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón. "Como la Flor" ("Like the Flower") is a song that was recorded by American singer Selena for her third studio album ''Entre a Mi Mundo'' (1992). It was written by A. B. Quintanilla and Pete Astudillo. The song was conceptualized in 1982 after A. B. saw a family selling illuminated plastic flowers at a concert in Sacramento, California. In 1992, an Earworm, infectious melody stuck in A. B's head; he ran from the shower of their hotel room in Bryan, Texas, pulled out a keyboard, and immediately began working on it with Astudillo. It took A. B. 20 minutes to complete the music and took Astudillo another hour to complete the lyrics. ''Entre a Mi Mundo'' ( en, italic=yes, Enter My World) is the third studio album by American singer Selena, released on May 6, 1992, by EMI Latin. In his recording debut with Selena y Los Dinos, guitarist Chris Pérez had fallen in love with Selena—which Selena's father and manager of the group, Abraham Quintanilla, Jr., disapproved of—and Pérez and Selena eloped on April 2, 1992, after Abraham fired Pérez from the band. Mecano was a Spanish pop band formed in 1981 and active until 1992. Mecano became one of the most successful Spanish pop bands of all time.
