Pope Agrippinus Of Alexandria
Pope Agrippinus was the 10th Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria. When Pope Celadion died, Bishop Agrippinus was chosen Patriarch by the people and clergy of Alexandria. According to Coptic tradition, Anba Agrippinus did not own any silver or gold, except for what met his basic personal needs. Aggrippinus died after a reign of 12 years. The Patriarch of Alexandria is the archbishop of Alexandria, Egypt. Historically, this office has included the designation "pope" (etymologically "Father", like "Abbot"). The Alexandrian episcopate was revered as one of the three major episcopal sees (along with Rome and Antioch) before Constantinople or Jerusalem were granted similar status (in 381 and 451, respectively). Coptic Calendar
The Coptic calendar, also called the Alexandrian calendar, is a liturgical calendar used by the Coptic Orthodox Church and also used by the farming populace in Egypt. It was used for fiscal purposes in Egypt until the adoption of the Gregorian calendar on 11 September (6 Nesi) 1875. This calendar is based on the ancient Egyptian calendar. To avoid the calendar creep of the latter (which contained only 365 days each year, year after year, so that the seasons shifted about one day every four years), a reform of the ancient Egyptian calendar was introduced at the time of Ptolemy III ( Decree of Canopus, in 238 BC) which consisted of adding an extra day every fourth year. Pope Celadion (Keladionus) was the 9th Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, reigning from 152 to 166. Celadion was born in Alexandria, Egypt and was much loved by the people as righteous and wise. He was elected Patriarch in 152 during the reign Antoninus Pius. When he took over the leadership, he tended the plants left to him by his predecessors. His days were peaceful, and nothing troubled the serenity of the Christians. He reigned for fourteen years, six months, and three days, and died during the reign of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, on the 9th of Epip (16 July), in the year 166 AD.
