Politiken Cup
The Xtracon Chess Open (formerly the Politiken Cup) is an international chess tournament and the main feature event of the annual Copenhagen Chess Festival. History Organized by the Copenhagen Chess Federation (KSU), it was originally set up to give Danish players the opportunity of international experience and title norms. Starting from modest means in 1979, with just 22 contestants, it has grown to become one of the world's largest and most respected open chess tournaments, with numbers of participants rising to 200 in 2003, and nowadays reaching well in excess of 400. The tournament has attracted many of the world's strongest grandmasters as well as promising youngsters. Former world champion Vassily Smyslov was among the winners in 1980 and 1986, while other notable winners have included Viktor Korchnoi as clear first in 1996 at the age of 65 and Nigel Short in 2006. Chess Tournament
A chess tournament is a series of chess games played competitively to determine a winning individual or team. Since the first international chess tournament in London 1851 chess tournament, London, 1851, chess tournaments have become the standard form of chess competition among serious players. Today, the most recognized chess tournaments for individual competition include the Linares chess tournament (now defunct) and the Corus chess tournament, Tata Steel chess tournament. The largest team chess tournament is the Chess Olympiad, in which players compete for their country's team in the same fashion as the Olympic Games. Since the 1960s, Computer chess, chess computers have occasionally entered human tournaments, but this is no longer common. Sergey Kudrin
Sergey Kudrin (born September 7, 1959) is an American chess Grandmaster who was born in the Soviet Union. He achieved his Grandmaster title in 1984 going on to win chess tournaments at Copenhagen in 1983, and Beer-Sheva in 1984, and Torremolinos in 1985. He played in the 2005 Chess World Cup at Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia seeded 102nd, the 1999 Las Vegas FIDE Chess World Championship seeded 70th, and the 2004 FIDE World Chess Championship held in Tripoli, Libya, where he was seeded 92nd. In the United States Kudrin won third place in the 2008 Frank K. Berry United States Chess Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2008. He is also third in the 2008 World Chess Live Grand Prix standings. Yury Rafaelovich Dokhoian (russian: Юрий Рафаэлович Дохоян; 26 October 1964 – 1 July 2021) was a Russian Grandmaster of chess (1988) of Armenian origin. Konstantin Lerner
Konstantin Zaivelevich Lerner ( uk, Костантин Зайвелевич Лернер; 28 February 1950, Odessa, Ukraine, former USSR – 24 September 2011, Herzlia, Israel) was a Ukrainian chess grandmaster (GM). In 1978 and 1982, he was Ukrainian Champion. He played in several Soviet Union championships, and his best achievement was second place, behind Andrei Sokolov, at Lvov in 1984. Jens Kristiansen
Jens Kristiansen (born 25 May 1952) is a Danish chess player. He earned the FIDE title of Grandmaster (GM) in 2012 by winning the World Seniors Chess Championship, prior to which he had been an International Master (IM) since 1979. Lars Karlsson (chess Player)
Lars Karlsson (born 11 July 1955) is a Swedish chess grandmaster (1982), Swedish Chess Championship winner (1992). Biography From the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, Karlsson belonged to the top Swedish chess players. In 1992 he won the Swedish Chess Championship. Karlsson won silver medals in the national championship twice (1979, 1986) and a bronze medal once (1976). Rafael Artemovich Vaganian ( hy, Ռաֆայել Արտյոմի Վահանյան, Rrafayel Artyomi Vahanyan, russian: link=no, Рафаэль Артёмович Ваганян, ''Rafael Artemovich Vaganyan''; born 15 October 1951) is an Armenian chess player holding the title of grandmaster (GM). Evgeny Pigusov (russian: Евгений Пигусов; born March 31, 1961) is a Russian chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1987. He competed in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2002, where he reached the third round. Alexander Mikhailovich Chernin (russian: Александр Михайлович Чернин; born 6 March 1960) is a Soviet-born Hungarian chess grandmaster and trainer. Tournaments and championships Born in Kharkiv, Ukrainian SSR, as a youth he frequently succeeded in tournaments and climbed rapidly through the junior rankings to participate at the very highest level.
