Pine Flat, also known as Dogwood Flat, is an unincorporated community in Butler County, Alabama, United States, located on Alabama State Route 10. History Pine Flat was originally known as Dogwood Flat, and was one of the first areas settled in Butler County. A post office operated under the name Pine Flat from 1894 to 1907. Fort Bibb was located in Pine Flat and was built around the house of James Saffold. The land enclosed by the present state borders was joined to the United States of America gradually. Butler County, Alabama
Butler County is a county located in the south central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,051. Its county seat is Greenville. Its name is in honor of Captain William Butler, who was born in Virginia and fought in the Creek War, and who was killed in May 1818. History Butler County was formed from Conecuh County, Alabama, and Monroe County, Alabama, by an act passed December 13, 1819, by the Legislature while in session at Huntsville. This was the first session of the Legislature of Alabama as a State. Area Code 334
Area code 334 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for southeastern Alabama. It was created on January 15, 1995, in an area code split from area code 205. and was the first new area code in Alabama since the implementation of area codes in 1947. To permit a transition period for the reconfiguration of equipment, such as computers and fax machines, use of area code 205 continued in the 334 region through May 13, 1995. The numbering plan area (NPA) comprises the Montgomery, Auburn-Opelika, and Dothan metropolitan areas, as well as Phenix City and the Alabama side of the Columbus, Georgia metro area. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Alabama State Route 10
State Route 10 (SR 10) is a major west–east state highway in the U.S. state of Alabama, running for through the southern part of the state. It is the lowest even-numbered route in the state that is not an unsigned partner route assigned to a U.S. Highway. It is also the only signed state route that extends from the Mississippi state line to the Georgia state line. The western terminus of the route is in northwestern Choctaw County near the community of Yantley, where it serves as a continuation of Mississippi Highway 19 (MS 19). Fort Bibb
Fort Bibb was a stockade fort built in present-day Butler County, Alabama during the First Seminole War. History After the Ogly Massacre, many of the settlers in the surrounding area began to build protective stockades around their homes. Fort Bibb was first constructed in early 1818 and was built around the home of Captain James Saffold. The fort was named for William Wyatt Bibb, who was the acting governor of the Alabama Territory. Captain Saffold participated in the Battle of Calebee Creek, and afterwards settled in the area of Pine Flat. Warren A. Thompson and William Butler also settled in Pine Flat. Colonel Samuel Dale helped to fortify Fort Bibb while he and his militia constructed Fort Dale on the Federal Road in the spring of 1818.
