Pimpa
Pimpa or ''La Pimpa'' is an Italian comic strip, created by Francesco Tullio Altan, whose main character is a red-spotted female dog. The comic strip was published by the comics magazine ''Corriere dei Piccoli'' from 1975 until 1995; from 1987 it also became the leading character of an eponymous monthly children's magazine. Pimpa was also the subject of three animated series, directed by Osvaldo Cavandoli and Enzo D'Alò, produced and broadcast by Rai TV RAI – Radiotelevisione italiana (; commercially styled as Rai since 2000; known until 1954 as Radio Audizioni Italiane) is the national public broadcasting company of Italy, owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Francesco Tullio Altan
Francesco Tullio Altan (born 30 September 1942) is an Italian comics artist and satirist. Biography He was born in Treviso, the son of Friulan anthropologist Carlo Tullio Altan. He studied at the University IUAV of Venice, but halted his studies to work for cinema and TV as a scenographer and writer. In 1970 he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he created his first comics series for children, published in a local newspaper. In 1974 he began collaborating with Italian publishers. In 1974, for the comics magazine ''Linus'', he created Trino, an unprepared god who has to create the world. In 1975, the year he returned to Italy, Altan created one of his most famous characters, Pimpa, initially published in ''Corriere dei Piccoli''. Enzo D'Alò (born 7 September 1953) is an Italian animator and director. Life and career Born in Naples, D'Alò moved to Turin in 1979 and there he started his career as animator working with the group "La Lanterna Magica". In 1983 he debuted as director of animated shorts, and in 1991 he was chosen to direct the TV-series ''Pimpa'', based on Pimpa, the comic character with the same name. After his feature film debut with ''La freccia azzurra'', D'Alò got a large audience success and critical acclaim with his second work, ''Lucky and Zorba''. Corriere Dei Piccoli
The ''Corriere dei Piccoli'' (Italian for "Courier of the Little Ones"), later nicknamed ''Corrierino'' ("Little Courier"), was a weekly magazine for children published in Italy from 1908 to 1995. It was the first Italian periodical to make a regular feature of publishing comic strips. Publication history ''Corriere dei Piccoli'' was established in 1908. The first issue (24 pages, 80,000 copies) was published on 27 December 1908, with Silvio Spaventa Filippi as editor-in-chief. It was founded by Luigi Albertini. The magazine was formally a supplement for children of ''Corriere della Sera'', but it was also sold separately for 0.10 lira Its upmarket rival ''Il giornalino della Domenica'', founded in 1906, sold for two and a half times the price. At its acme, the magazine sold 700,000 copies. By 1970 the magazine started having financial difficulties due to rising costs and competition by other magazines and comics books. Osvaldo Cavandoli
Osvaldo Cavandoli (1 January 1920 – 3 March 2007), also known by his pen name Cava, was an Italian cartoonist. His most famous work is his series of short animated cartoons, '' La Linea'' ("The Line"). Early life, family and education Cavandoli was born in Maderno sul Garda, Italy, on the shores of Lake Garda. He and his family moved to Milan when he was two years old. (He was later made an honorary citizen of the city.) Career From 1936 to 1940, he worked as a technical designer for Alfa Romeo. When he developed his interest in cartoons in 1943, he started working with Nino Pagot, who later created ''Calimero''. In 1950 he started working independently as a director and a producer.
