Calhoun High School is a public high school in Calhoun, Georgia, United States, serving grades 9-12 for the Calhoun City School District. It is accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and is a member of Georgia High School Association. It is located near downtown Calhoun in Gordon County. Awards Calhoun was named a Silver Medal school in the "Best High Schools" category by '' U.S. News & World Report'' in 2009. The Calhoun debate team won the 2008-2009 state debate championship (AA). Calhoun, Georgia
Calhoun is a city in Gordon County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 16,949. Calhoun is the county seat of Gordon County. History In December 1827, Georgia had already claimed the Cherokee lands that became Gordon County and other counties. A small town called "Dawsonville" was created and founded in Gordon County, named for the owner of an early general store. Dawsonville was later renamed "Calhoun" to honor U.S. Senator John C. Calhoun, following his death in 1850. Gordon County's inferior court called an election for the selection of the county seat, offering voters a choice between a site on the Western & Atlantic Railroad (near Adairsville) or a site more centrally located within the county. Kris Durham (born March 17, 1988) is a former American football wide receiver. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He played college football at Georgia. Diamond Rio is an American country music band. The band was founded in 1982 as an attraction for the Opryland USA theme park in Nashville, Tennessee, and was originally known as the Grizzly River Boys, then the Tennessee River Boys. Alabama is an American country music band formed in Fort Payne, Alabama, in 1969. The band was founded by Randy Owen (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and his cousin Teddy Gentry (bass, backing vocals). Monty Powell (born June 1, 1961) is an American country music songwriter best known for collaborating with Keith Urban, and for producing albums by Diamond Rio. Powell's first songwriting credit was a jingle for an Allstate commercial. James Beverly Langford
James Beverly Langford (April 11, 1922 – April 14, 1996) was an American lawyer and politician. Biography Langford was born in Calhoun, Georgia and graduated from Calhoun High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He received his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1947. He practiced law in Calhoun, Georgia and was also involved in the banking business. Langford also raised cattle. He served on the local school board. Langford served in the Georgia Senate from 1973 to 1980 and was a Democrat. He then served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1987 to 1992. Langford helped Jimmy Carter with his Georgia gubernatorial campaigns in 1966 and 1970. He served on the Georgia State Transportation Board from 1993 until his death in 1996.
