PGA Cup
The PGA Cup is a men's golf competition for club professionals played between a Great Britain and Ireland team and a United States team. The winning team is presented with the Llandudno Trophy. The competition is run by the British PGA and the PGA of America. It was first played in 1973 and was an annual event until 1984, after which it became biennial. The 2022 event was held at the Foxhills Golf Club in Surrey, England, the second time that the course had been chosen to host the event. The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. Later the venue rotated between a select group of coastal links golf courses in the United Kingdom. PGA Championship
The PGA Championship (often referred to as the US PGA Championship or USPGA outside the United States) is an annual golf tournament conducted by the Professional Golfers' Association of America. It is one of the four men's major championships in professional golf. The Masters Tournament (usually referred to as simply The Masters, or the U.S. Masters outside North America) is one of the four major championships in professional golf. Scheduled for the first full week of April, the Masters is the first major of the year, and unlike the others, it is always held at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club, a private course in the city of Augusta, Georgia, in the southeastern United States. Ron Streck
Ronald Raymond Streck (born July 17, 1954) is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour, and is a current player on the Champions Tour. Career Streck was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His father started him playing golf at age 3. He attended the University of Tulsa from 1973 to 1976, and was twice an All-American. He turned pro in 1976. Streck had several notable "firsts" in the annals of professional golf, earning him the nickname "Milestone Man". He was the first PGA player to play with Metalwoods. He was the first PGA player to win with Metalwoods (at the 1981 Michelob-Houston Open). With his victory in 2005 at the Commerce Bank Championship, he became the first player to win events on all three U.S.-based men's professional Tours (PGA, Nationwide, and Champions). The Chrysler Team Championship was an unofficial event on the PGA Tour from 1983 to 1990. It used a two-man better-ball format. It was played at Boca West Resort and Club and Broken Sound Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida from 1983 to 1986; at Palm Beach Polo Club, Wellington Club and Greenview Cove Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida from 1987 to 1988; at Palm Beach Polo Club (Cypress and Dunes courses) and Wellington Club in 1989; and at Binks Forest Country Club and Wellington Club in Wellington, Florida in 1990. Scott Simpson (golfer)
Scott William Simpson (born September 17, 1955) is an American professional golfer. Amateur career Simpson was born in San Diego, California, and played college golf at the University of Southern California, where he was two-time medalist at the NCAA Championship in 1976 and 1977. At the end of 1976 ''Golf Digest'' ranked Simpson the #1 amateur in the country. Professional career He turned professional in 1977 and graduated in 1978. He played on the PGA Tour from 1979, and won seven PGA Tour events between 1980 and 1998. The highlight of Simpson's career was the U.S. Open in 1987 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, his only major title. The Hall of Fame tournament was a golf tournament on the PGA Tour from 1973 to 1982. It was played at the Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina which was home to the World Golf Hall of Fame at the time. It was first played in 1973 as the World Open Golf Championship and was a unique event. It was a 144-hole tournament (twice the normal size) contested over two weeks. The 240 player field was cut after 72 holes to the top 70 plus ties who played the remaining 72 holes. It offered the largest purse ($500,000) and first place prize ($100,000) in PGA Tour history. For the rest of its existence it was played as a standard 72-hole event with purses in line with other PGA Tour events. The purse for the 1982 event was $250,000 with $45,000 going to the winner.
