Paul R. Screvane
Paul R. Screvane (August 11, 1914 – November 4, 2001) was an American politician. He served as the commissioner of the New York City Department of Sanitation from 1957 to 1961 and president of the New York City Council from 1962 to 1966. He also ran as a Democratic candidate in the New York City mayoral election, 1965, 1965 New York City mayoral election. New York City Council
The New York City Council is the lawmaking body of New York City. It has 51 members from 51 council districts throughout the five boroughs. The council serves as a check against the mayor in a mayor-council government model, the performance of city agencies land use decisions, and legislating on a variety of other issues.
