Paul Cotton
Norman Paul Cotton (February 26, 1943July 31, 2021) was an American guitarist and singer-songwriter. He was a member of the band Poco and the writer of their international hit song " Heart of the Night". Before that, he was co-guitarist for the Illinois Speed Press. Early life Cotton was born in Fort Rucker, Alabama, on February 26, 1943. He started learning the guitar when he was 13 years old, and became involved in his first band a year later. He relocated to Illinois by age 16 and joined the Mus-Twangs, which later became the Illinois Speed Press. He played for the group throughout the next decade until 1970, when it dissolved due to the divergent musical interests of him and Kal David. Career Cotton joined Poco in 1970, replacing Jim Messina. Most of Cotton's music career was as songwriter, lead guitarist and lead singer for the group. He said in a September 2000 interview with ''Sound Waves'' magazine, "I'm just drawn to the South. Heart Of The Night (song)
"Heart of the Night" is a song on the 1978 album release by the country-rock group Poco entitled ''Legend (Poco album), Legend''; the 1979 hit single is also featured on the group retrospective ''20th Century Masters'', as well as ''The Essential Poco''. Fort Rucker, Alabama
Fort Rucker is a U.S. Army post located primarily in Dale County, Alabama, United States. It was named for a Civil War officer, Confederate General Edmund Rucker. The post is the primary flight training installation for U.S. Army Aviators and is home to the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE) and the United States Army Aviation Museum. Small sections of the post also lie in Coffee, Geneva, and Houston counties. Part of the Dale County section of the base is a census-designated place; its population was 4,636 at the 2010 census. The main post has entrances from three bordering cities, Daleville, Ozark and Enterprise. In the years before the September 11, 2001 attacks, the main post (except airfields and other restricted areas) was an open post with unmanned gates allowing civilians to drive through. ''Legend'' is the eleventh studio album by the American country rock band Poco, released in 1978. Background After ABC Records canceled the 1977 release of Poco's planned 13th album: the live set '' The Last Roundup'', the three remaining members of the band: Rusty Young, Paul Cotton and George Grantham, agreed to the suspension of Poco as a recording or performing outfit. By 1978 Young - a founding member of Poco from 1968 - and Cotton - with Poco since 1970 - had decided to launch as essentially a duo act, ABC Records greenlighting the recording of the intended debut album of the Cotton-Young Band.
