Paul Buissonneau
Paul Georges Buissonneau, (born 24 December 1926 – 30 November 2014) was a leading francophone theatre director in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Born in Paris, France, Buissonneau started his career as a singer with the French chorus Les Compagnons de la chanson, alongside Édith Piaf who was also singing with the group at the time. He parted company with the chorus during a tour of North America, and settled in Quebec. In 1952, the City of Montreal appointed Buissonneau as artistic director of ''La Roulotte'', a parks-based outdoor theatre, which gave an early opportunity to famous Quebec artists Yvon Deschamps, Jean-Louis Millette, Claude Jasmin, Claude Léveillé, Marcel Sabourin and Robert Charlebois. In 1956, he founded his own company, the Théâtre de Quat'Sous (Four-penny Theatre) and served as its artistic director until 1989. French became an international language in the Middle Ages, when the power of the Kingdom of France made it the second international language, alongside Latin. This status continued to grow into the 18th century, by which time French was the language of European diplomacy and international relations. According to the 2022 report of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), 409 million people speak French. The OIF states that despite a decline in the number of learners of French in Europe, the overall number of speakers is rising, largely because of its presence in African countries: of the 212 million who use French daily, 54.7% are living in Africa. André Brassard
André Brassard (28 August 1946 – 11 October 2022) was a Canadian stage director, filmmaker and actor, best known for staging the vast majority of Michel Tremblay's plays. He was the director of the French section of the National Arts Center from 1982 to 1989 and the National Theatre School from 1992 to 2000. Brassard's 1974 film '' Once Upon a Time in the East'' was entered into the 1974 Cannes Film Festival. His 1977 film '' Le soleil se lève en retard'' was entered into the 10th Moscow International Film Festival. Brassard received a Governor General's Performing Arts Award for his lifetime contributions to Canadian theatre in 2002. Brassard was openly gay. He died on 11 October 2022, at the age of 76. Prix Denise-Pelletier Winners
Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous of Banjo playing. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976.
