Pangmi ( my, Pinhmi, script=Latn) was a Shan state in the Myelat region of what is today Burma. It was very small, having an area of only , and was almost entirely enclosed by Hsamonghkam. Myelat
Myelat ( my, မြေလတ်) is a historical region of the southwestern Shan State of Myanmar. Originally this region included some of the smaller states typically ruled by " Myosas" (chief of town) or " Ngwegunhmus" (silver revenue chief), buffering the plains of Burma and the ethnic Shan states further east. The term "Myelat" is still in common use today, although the old political and administrative distinctions no longer apply. Geography The area is hemmed in on the north by the state of Lawksawk, on the east by the states of Yawnghwe, Wanyin and Hsatung, and on the south by Mong Pai. In 1897, the population was recorded as 107,500, the majority being of the Taungthu or Pa-O (42,933), followed by Danu (29,713), Taungyo (13,906), Shan (6,572), and a smaller number of other ethnic groups. Shan People
The Shan people ( shn, တႆး; , my, ရှမ်းလူမျိုး; ), also known as the Tai Long, or Tai Yai are a Tai ethnic group of Southeast Asia. The Shan are the biggest minority of Burma (Myanmar) and primarily live in the Shan State of this country, but also inhabit parts of Mandalay Region, Kachin State, and Kayin State, and in adjacent regions of China ( Dai people), Laos, Assam (Ahom people) and Thailand. Though no reliable census has been taken in Burma since 1935, the Shan are estimated to number 4–6 million, with CIA Factbook giving an estimate of five million spread throughout Myanmar which is about 10% of the overall Burmese population. 'Shan' is a generic term for all Tai-speaking peoples within Myanmar (Burma). The capital of Shan State is Taunggyi, the fifth-largest city in Myanmar with about 390,000 people. Hsamonghkam
Hsamonghkam or Hsamönghkam (also known as Thamaingkan) was a Shan state in the Myelat region of Burma. Its capital was Aungpan. Hsamonghkam was established before 1700 CE. During the 18th and 19th centuries it was a tributary of Burma. In 1886, following the fall of the Konbaung dynasty, it submitted to British rule. Danu People
The Danu people ( my, ဓနု) are a government-recognized ethnic group in Myanmar, predominantly populating the areas near the Pindaya Caves in Shan State.
