The Palaruvi Express (Train number: 16791/16792) is a daily Intercity express train which runs between in Tamil Nadu and in Kerala. The train first introduced as a service running between Punalur in Kollam to Palakkad. On 9 July 2018, it was extended up to . Background The train was introduced on 19 April 2017, providing better connectivity to the Eastern Kollam region with Central Kerala and as a relief for daily commuters, especially office-goers who have been relying on Venad Express. On 29 May 2022 it became the First train to pass through the Doubled track between Ettumanoor-Kottayam-Chingavanam section which made the Thiruvananthapuram-Kottayam-Eranakulam-Mangaluru section completely doubled electrified line. Punalur is a Municipality in Kollam district of Kerala State in India. It is the headquarter of the Punalur Taluk and Punalur Revenue Division. It's situated in the eastern part of Kollam district of Kerala, on the banks of the Kallada River and foothills of the western ghats. It is about north-east of Kollam and north of Thiruvananthapuram. Kollam–Thiruvananthapuram trunk line is a railway line in Southern Railway zone connecting the cities of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala, India. The line was opened on 4 January 1918 as the extension of Madras–Quilon line during metre gauge era. History South Indian Railway Company has opened the Quilon–Sengottai railway line in 1902 with an intention to connect Quilon (Kollam), the commercial capital of Travancore with Madras. Venad Express
The Venad Express is an Express train connecting and via . The daily train's numbers are 16301 (from Shoranur Junction to Trivandrum Central) and 16302 (from Trivandrum Central to Shoranur Junction). History The Venad Express is one of the oldest daily intercity trains in Kerala, and one of the most popular trains between Trivandrum (the state capital) and Ernakulam (Kochi). The Express was introduced in 1972 by Southern Railways. It travelled the track between Trivandrum Central and Ernakulam. At that time, diesel engines were used to power the train, which initially had a green livery. In 1976, Indian Railways converted the tracks to broad gauge. In the 1980s, Indian Railways introduced double-decker coaches for the train. The company later withdrew the double-decker compartments due to operational issues.
