Poalei Agudat Yisrael
Poalei Agudat Yisrael ( he, פועלי אגודת ישראל, , Agudat Yisrael Workers) was a trade union and Jewish political party in Poland and a minor political party in Israel. It was also known as PAI or PAGI, its Hebrew acronym (Hebrew: or ). History Poalei Agudas Izrael was founded in 1922 in Lodz, Poland as a workers affiliate of Agudas Izrael of Poland. As well as being a trade union, they fielded candidates in the Polish elections in the interwar period. With the establishment of the State of Israel, Poalei Agudat Yisrael became an ultra-orthodox workers' political party associated with Agudat Yisrael. They were also part of the Histadrut. In the elections for the first Knesset, the party ran on a joint list with the other religious parties of the time, Agudat Yisrael, Mizrachi and Hapoel HaMizrachi. The group was called the United Religious Front and won 16 seats. They joined David Ben-Gurion's coalition government alongside Mapai, the Progressive Party, th ...

Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-2
Plasminogen activator inhibitor-2 (placental PAI, SerpinB2, PAI-2), a serine protease inhibitor of the serpin superfamily, is a coagulation factor that inactivates tissue plasminogen activator and urokinase. It is present in most cells, especially monocytes/macrophages. PAI-2 exists in two forms, a 60-kDa extracellular glycosylated form and a 43-kDa intracellular form. It is present only at detectable quantities in blood during pregnancy, as it is produced by the placenta, and may explain partially the increased rate of thrombosis during pregnancy. The majority of expressed PAI-2 remains unsecreted due to the presence of an inefficient internal signal peptide. Interactions PAI-2 has been reported to bind a series of intracellular and extracellular proteins. Whether PAI-2's physiological function is inhibition of the extracellular protease urokinase and/or whether PAI-2 has intracellular activities remains controversial. At least one of PAI-2's physiological functions may i ...

Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1
Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) also known as endothelial plasminogen activator inhibitor or serpin E1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''SERPINE1'' gene. Elevated PAI-1 is a risk factor for thrombosis and atherosclerosis PAI-1 is a serine protease inhibitor (serpin) that functions as the principal inhibitor of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase (uPA), the activators of plasminogen and hence fibrinolysis (the physiological breakdown of blood clots). It is a serine protease inhibitor (serpin) protein (SERPINE1). The other PAI, plasminogen activator inhibitor-2 (PAI-2) is secreted by the placenta and only present in significant amounts during pregnancy. In addition, protease nexin acts as an inhibitor of tPA and urokinase. PAI-1, however, is the main inhibitor of the plasminogen activators. Genetics The PAI-1 gene is ''SERPINE1'', located on chromosome 7 (7q21.3-q22). There is a common polymorphism known as 4G/5G in the promoter region. The 5 ...

Photoacoustic Imaging
Photoacoustic imaging or optoacoustic imaging is a biomedical imaging modality based on the photoacoustic effect. Non-ionizing laser pulses are delivered into biological tissues and part of the energy will be absorbed and converted into heat, leading to transient thermoelastic expansion and thus wideband (i.e. MHz) ultrasonic emission. The generated ultrasonic waves are detected by ultrasonic transducers and then analyzed to produce images. It is known that optical absorption is closely associated with physiological properties, such as hemoglobin concentration and oxygen saturation. As a result, the magnitude of the ultrasonic emission (i.e. photoacoustic signal), which is proportional to the local energy deposition, reveals physiologically specific optical absorption contrast. 2D or 3D images of the targeted areas can then be formed. Biomedical imaging The optical absorption in biological tissues can be due to endogenous molecules such as hemoglobin or melanin, or exogenousl ...

Personality Assessment Inventory
Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI), developed by Leslie Morey (1991, 2007), is a self-report 344-item personality test that assesses a respondent's personality and psychopathology. Each item is a statement about the respondent that the respondent rates with a 4-point scale (1-"Not true at all, False", 2-"Slightly true", 3-"Mainly true", and 4-"Very true"). It is used in various contexts, including psychotherapy, crisis/evaluation, forensic, personnel selection, pain/medical, and child custody assessment. The test construction strategy for the PAI was primarily deductive and rational. It shows good convergent validity with other personality tests, such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Revised NEO Personality Inventory. Scales The PAI has 22 non-overlapping scales of four varieties: 1) validity scales, 2) clinical scales, 3) treatment consideration scales, and 4) interpersonal scales. Validity scales The validity scales measure the respondent's o ...

Persatuan Arab Indonesia
The Indonesia Arab Association ( id, Persatuan Arab Indonesia) (PAI) is an association of Arab Indonesians founded by Abdurrahman Baswedan in 1934 in Semarang to encourage the allegiance of Arab immigrants to Indonesia. History On October 4, 1934 a group of forty Muwallads met in Semarang. After three days of vigorous debate they announced the establishment of a new organization called ''Persatoean Arab Indonesia''. Originally the association was intended to encourage Arab Indonesians, mostly Muwallads, to integrate, assimilate and pledge allegiance to Indonesia which was still under ruling of Netherlands as Dutch East Indies. The association later joined the political party ''Gabungan Politik Indonesia'' (GAPI) in 1939-1940. Meanwhile, a separate association called ''Indo-Arabische Beweging'' found in 1930, in other hand, tried to continue the separate status of Arab immigrants as ''foreign orientals'' established by the Dutch government. Members of the association came ...

Periodic Annual Increment
In forestry, periodic annual increment (PAI) is the change in the size of a tree between the beginning and ending of a growth period, divided by the number of years that was designated as the growing period. For sigmoid growth, the graph of PAI increases rapidly and then quickly declines, approaching zero. PAI may go negative if a tree loses volume due to damage or disease. Periodic annual increment is commonly used instead of current annual increment as a basis for computing growth ''per cent''. Growth ''per cent'' indicates the rate of increase with relation to the wood capital required for its production, this is usually based on a single year's growth.Chapman, H.H.,1921, Forest Mensuration, second edition. p315 New York: Wiley & Sons, Inc. Equation PAI= \frac Where: Y is the yield (volume, height, DBH, etc.) at times 1 and 2 and T1 represents the year starting the growth period, and T2 is the end year. Example: Say that the growth period is from age 5 to age 10, and ...

Pathogenicity Island
Pathogenicity islands (PAIs), as termed in 1990, are a distinct class of genomic islands acquired by microorganisms through horizontal gene transfer. Pathogenicity islands are found in both animal and plant pathogens. Additionally, PAIs are found in both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. They are transferred through horizontal gene transfer events such as transfer by a plasmid, phage, or conjugative transposon. Therefore, PAIs contribute to microorganisms' ability to evolve. One species of bacteria may have more than one PAI. For example, ''Salmonella'' has at least five. An analogous genomic structure in rhizobia is termed a '' symbiosis island''. Properties Pathogenicity islands (PAIs) are gene clusters incorporated in the genome, chromosomally or extrachromosomally, of pathogenic organisms, but are usually absent from those nonpathogenic organisms of the same or closely related species. They may be located on a bacterial chromosome or may be transferred within a pl ...

African Independence Party
African Independence Party (in French: ''Parti Africain de l'Indépendance'') was a communist party in French West Africa (AOF). PAI was founded in Thiès, Senegal in 1957. Later as AOF was dissolved into independent countries the local PAI sections became independent parties, often keeping the name PAI. PAI was the first party in AOF to unequivocally demand independence from French rule.Chafer, Tony. ''The end of empire in French West Africa : France's successful decolonization?''. Oxford: Berg, 2002. p. 210 In Senegal PAI was banned on August 1, 1960. In Senegal the following parties trace/traced their origin back to PAI: * Party of Independence and Work (PIT, technically the original PAI) * African Independence Party-Renewal (legally registered as PAI) * Democratic League - Movement for the Labour Party * Senegalese Communist Party (short-lived pro-Chinese faction) In Upper Volta/Burkina Faso PAI was established in 1963. PAI attained importance through its mass front Patriot ...
