Puttalam ( si, පුත්තලම, translit=Puttalama; ta, புத்தளம், translit=Puttaḷam) is the largest town in Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. Puttalam is the administrative capital of the Puttalam District and governed by an Urban Council. Puttalam District
Puttalam is a district situated near to the west coast of Sri Lanka. It has an area of . Along with the Kurunegala District, it formulates the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. The district capital is Puttalam, which borders the Kala Oya and Modaragam Aru in the north, Anuradhapura District and Kurunegala District in the east, Ma Oya in the south, and the Indian Ocean in the west. Puttalam is well known for its picturesque lagoons, popular for shallow sea fishing and prawn farming activities. The town of Kalpitiya, and the Kalpitiya Peninsula, is located in this district. Kamardeen Abdul Baiz (20 February 1969 – 23 May 2021) was Chairman of Urban Council Puttalam (In office 2018 to until death), a Sri Lankan former parliamentarian and cabinet deputy minister. Tariq Hisny, simply known and credited as Tariq, is a Sri Lankan composer and singer, working mainly for the Indian music industry. Early life and education Tariq was born in Puttalam, North Western Province of Sri Lanka. From a young age, he had shown promise as a singer. During his early days, he used to sing songs as a karaoke artist. He also developed an interest in composing music. He has acknowledged Yuvan Shankar Raja, AR Rahman and Karthik as his inspirations. Tariq learned Carnatic music, western music theory and piano. Compositions In 2016, Tariq began composing music. The same year, he released his first album titled, ''Izhaar-e-Ishq'', in Hindi language. He collaborated with playback singers Yazin Nizar and Srisha for a song “Bin Tere” in this album.
