''Purple Passages'' is a 1972 North American, Japan and Venezuela only double-LP compilation album by Deep Purple featuring material originally released in 1968 and 1969 on the Tetragrammaton label. It features classics such as " Hush" and " Kentucky Woman". It was issued in Japan on compact disc in 1993. This compilation included some alternate mixes of "The Bird Has Flown" and "Why Didn't Rosemary?", with the former having a clean intro instead of a fade-in on the album version. It also included the final Purple Mk. I single "Emmaretta" for the first time on LP. Original lead singer Rod Evans went on to front the popular 1970s band Captain Beyond. And The Address
"And the Address" is a song by English group Deep Purple. It appears on their debut ''Shades of Deep Purple'' and on their 2020 album '' Whoosh!''. Early history The song is the very first composed by the band. It was written by Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord before the formation of the group, but the two knew that they would get a band together soon, as they had been hired by musician Chris Curtis to get something started. This was because Curtis had met Lord whilst on the hunt for some session-players. Lord soon learned about a young guitarist named Ritchie Blackmore, apparently of exceptional talent, from bassist Nick Simper who would also join Deep Purple. Composition The duo's cooperation with Curtis didn't work though, as the latter tended to be much too directorial and supposedly "in charge". , established in 1999, is the holding company at the head of a Japanese corporate group that supplies statistics and information on music and the music industry in Japan and Western music. It started as, which was founded by Sōkō Koike in November 1967 and became known for its music charts. Ian Paice
Ian Anderson Paice (born 29 June 1948) is an English musician, best known as the drummer and last remaining original member of the rock band Deep Purple. He is often cited as one of the greatest drummers of all-time. He remains the only member of Deep Purple who has served in every line-up since the band’s inception in 1968, as well as having played on every album and at every live appearance. Nicholas John Simper (born 3 November 1945) is an English bass guitarist, who was a co-founding member of Deep Purple and Warhorse. In the 1960s, he began his professional career in bands such as Johnny Kidd & the Pirates, The Flower Pot Men, and Lord Sutch's Savages. Biography Simper was born in Frogmore House Maternity Home, Norwood Green, Southall, Middlesex. Jon Lord
John Douglas Lord (9 June 194116 July 2012) was an English orchestral and rock composer, pianist, and Hammond organ player known for his pioneering work in fusing rock with classical or baroque forms, especially with the British rock band Deep Purple. He also spent time in the bands Whitesnake, Paice Ashton Lord, The Artwoods, The Flower Pot Men and Santa Barbara Machine Head. In 1968, Lord co-founded Deep Purple, a hard rock band of which he was regarded as the leader in its early years. Ritchie Blackmore
Richard Hugh Blackmore (born 14 April 1945) is an English guitarist and songwriter. He was a founding member of Deep Purple in 1968, playing jam-style hard rock music that mixed guitar riffs and organ sounds. He is prolific in creating guitar riffs and classically influenced solos. During his solo career, Blackmore established the hard rock band Rainbow, which fused baroque music influences and elements of hard rock. Rainbow steadily moved to catchy pop-style mainstream rock. Mandrake Root
"Mandrake Root" is a song by Deep Purple that is featured on their debut album '' Shades of Deep Purple''. The title is in reference to the mandrake plant, but is also the name of a pre-Purple band that Blackmore was trying to form in Germany when he got the call from Deep Purple's original management. Recording Deep Purple recorded their first studio album in May 1968. Of the eight songs that were included, (an additional one, "Shadows", was cut as a demo but scrapped from the album), only four of them were written by the band itself. Additionally, one of these songs, " And the Address", is an instrumental. The studio version of "Mandrake Root" is just over six minutes long. Many full recordings of the live arrangement exceed the twenty-minute mark. Joe South (born Joseph Alfred Souter; February 28, 1940 – September 5, 2012) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. Best known for his songwriting, South won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1970 for " Games People Play" and was again nominated for the award in 1972 for "Rose Garden". Career South had met and was encouraged by Bill Lowery, an Atlanta music publisher and radio personality. "Hey Joe" is an American song from the 1960s that has become a rock standard and has been performed in many musical styles by hundreds of different artists.
