Pure (Pendragon Album)
''Pure'' is the eighth studio album by English neo-prog group Pendragon. It was first released on October 1, 2008, as a regular edition on Toff Records, the band's own imprint, and reissued on March 14, 2011, as a special CD+DVD edition in rigid digi book through Madfish, a division label of Snapper Music. The DVD in the new special packaging has an 1hr. 24min. footage titled 'Handy-Cam Progumentary', recorded by the band themselves. Reception The overall reception of the album was very much positive. Neo-prog
Neo-progressive rock (commonly abbreviated neo-prog) is a subgenre of progressive rock that developed in the UK in the early 1980s. The genre's most popular band, Marillion, achieved mainstream success in the decade. Several bands from the genre have continued to record and tour. Characteristics Neo-prog is characterised by deeply emotional content, often delivered via dramatic lyrics and a generous use of imagery and theatricality on-stage. The music is mostly the product of careful composition, relying less heavily on improvised jamming. The subgenre relies very much on clean, melodic and emotional electric guitar solos, combined with keyboards. The main musical influences on the neo-prog genre are bands from the first wave of progressive rock such as early Genesis, Camel, and to a lesser extent Van der Graaf Generator and Pink Floyd. Optical disc packaging is the packaging that accompanies CDs, DVDs, and other formats of optical discs. Most packaging is rigid or semi-rigid and designed to protect the media from scratches and other types of exposure damage. Jewel case A jewel case is a compact disc case that has been used since the compact disc was first released in 1982. It is a three-piece plastic case, measuring , a volume of , which usually contains a compact disc along with the liner notes and a back card. Two opposing transparency and translucency, transparent halves are hinged together to form the casing, the back half holding a media tray that grips the disc by its hole. ''Passion'' is the ninth studio album by English neo-prog group Pendragon (band), Pendragon. It was released as a special edition on 11 April 2011 on Madfish, a division label of Snapper Music and in regular form through Toff Records, the band's own imprint. Two packaging formats of the Madfish album exist, digipak, digi-book and Super Jewel Box, super jewel case both accompanied by a DVD featuring a behind-the-scenes footage titled 'Progumentary', filmed by the band themselves during the recording of the album. There is also a two-disc, three-sided orange coloured vinyl edition with gatefold sleeve. Reception The global impression of the album was generally positive, with a 4.04 out of 5 stars score in Prog Archives, across 123 given ratings as for 22 May 2011. Pendragon (band)
Pendragon are an English neo-prog band established in 1978 in Stroud, Gloucestershire as Zeus Pendragon by guitarist and vocalist Nick Barrett. The word ''Zeus'' was dropped before the band started recording, as the members decided it was too long to look good on a T-shirt. There were a few personnel changes in the early days, but since 1986 the lineup has remained relatively stable (with only the drummer changing several times since then) and the band are still active as of 2025. History The band were active in the progressive rock revival spearheaded by the likes of Marillion, Pallas, Solstice and Twelfth Night in the early 1980s, and indeed (like their peers IQ) often appeared as support acts to Marillion and other major neo-prog bands, both on tours and at the Marquee venue which hosted many regular prog evenings. Karl Groom
Karl Groom is a British guitarist and record producer. He is best known as a founding and the only constant member of the progressive metal band Threshold (band), Threshold. His production and mixing credits are mainly with progressive and power metal bands. Musician Groom is the guitarist of Threshold (band), Threshold, having formed the band in 1988. He has since produced and released twelve studio albums and is currently signed to Nuclear Blast. In addition, a live DVD entitled ''Critical Energy'' was released in 2004 whilst on the Inside Out Music label. Groom also played guitar in Mercy Train, Shadowland (band), Shadowland, and Strangers on a Train, all during the mid-1990s. In 2017, he played all acoustic guitars on Galahad (band), Galahad's ''Quiet Storms'' album. Producer Groom works from his own Thin Ice Studios since 1990.
