Project Iron Boomerang
Project Iron Boomerang is a proposal, originated in 2006, to build a multi-user rail corridor spanning northern Australia and to facilitate placement of five steel-making plants at each end, owned and operated by steel mill companies. A key element of its projected feasibility was the elimination of inefficient, unproductive and environmentally damaging empty return train-loads. The termini of the railway line were projected to be Newman, Western Australia and Abbot Point, Queensland, about 3000 km (1860 mi) apart. The proponent is a private company, East West Line Parks Pty Ltd. , Shane Condon was stated as being the founder and managing director. An Australian Broadcastion Corporation report in 2011 stated that acquisition of land had begun. Newman, Western Australia
Newman, originally named Mount Newman until 1981, is a town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is located about north of Perth, and north of the Tropic of Capricorn. It can be reached by the Great Northern Highway. Newman is a modern mining town, with homes contrasting with the surrounding reddish desert. The 2021 population was 6,456. Abbot Point
Abbot Point Port is home to the North Queensland Export Terminal (NQXT), the most northerly deepwater coal port of Australia, situated approximately north-west of the township of Bowen (Queensland). Established in 1984, it consists of a rail in-loading facility, coal handling and stockpile areas, and a single trestle jetty and conveyor connected to a berth and shiploader, located 2.75 km off-shore. Coal reaches the port via the GAP railway line from the Bowen Basin Coalfields. Malcolm Roberts (politician)
Malcolm Ieuan Roberts (born 3 May 1955) is a far-right Australian politician. He is a member of One Nation and has been a Senator for Queensland since 2019. He also served in the Senate from 2016 to 2017. Roberts studied engineering at the University of Queensland. He was a mining engineer before entering politics, working in the Australian coal industry. He notably worked as general manager of the Gordonstone coal mine in central Queensland.
