Poul Nyrup Rasmussen
Poul Oluf Nyrup Rasmussen (, informally Poul Nyrup, born 15 June 1943) is a retired Danish politician. Rasmussen was Prime Minister of Denmark from 25 January 1993 to 27 November 2001 and President of the Party of European Socialists (PES) from 2004 to 2011. He was the leader of the governing Social Democrats from 1992 to 2002. He was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009. Rasmussen is a member of the Club of Madrid. In 2007 he published the book ''I grådighedens tid'' (''In a Time of Greed''), which contains harsh criticism of the role hedge and venture capital funds play in the global economy. Early life Rasmussen was born to a working-class family in Esbjerg in 1943. His parents were Oluf Nyrup Rasmussen and Vera Eline Nyrup Rasmussen. Lone Dybkjær (23 May 1940 – 20 July 2020) was a Danish politician. She served three non-consecutive terms as a member of the Folketing. Between 1988 to 1990, she was Minister for the Environment of Denmark during the second Poul Schlüter cabinet. Between 1994 to 2004, she was a member of the European Parliament. The Christian Democrats ( Danish: ''Kristendemokraterne'') (KD) are a political party in Denmark. The Centre Democrats ( da, Centrum-Demokraterne, CD) were a Danish political party. History The party was formed in 1973 by Erhard Jakobsen, a former MP and mayor of Gladsaxe, as a centrist splinter group from the Danish Social Democrats. It participated in both centre-right governments (1982–1988) and centre-left governments (1993–1996). In the 2001 election it lost its parliamentary representation, a severe setback for the party. In the 2005 election it got 33,635 votes (1% of votes nationwide). It also ran in several municipalities in the Danish municipal election in November 2005. Tamil Case (Denmark)
The Tamil Case (Danish: Tamilsagen) was a case about family reunification in Denmark of Tamil refugees from the Sri Lankan Civil War. The affair led to the resignation of the government led by Poul Schlüter in 1993. The scandal was first uncovered in a series of articles written by Nils Ufer in ''Weekendavisen''. Ufer later dramatized it in the play ''Mens vi venter på retfærdigheden''. (While We're Wating for Justice). He received the Cavling Prize for his work on it posthumously in 1992. Background The case began in 1987, when the government examined the possibilities of decreasing the number of Tamil family reunifications. Following this, the Minister of Justice Erik Ninn-Hansen decided to stall the advance of family reunification of Tamil refugees.
