Pluto (Canadian Band)
Pluto was a Canadian alternative rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia. They were nominated for a 1997 Juno Award. The band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Ian Jones, guitarist Rolf Hetherington, bassist John Ounpuu, and drummer Justin Leigh. History Pluto formed in 1993 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. After independently releasing several singles, the band released its debut album, ''Cool Way to Feel'', in 1995 on Mint Records. The band released a four-song EP, ''Cut and Paste'' in 1996. The band subsequently signed to Virgin Records. On June 26, 1996, the band released their eponymous album, which featured the hit single "Paste". "Paste" also appeared on the first '' Big Shiny Tunes'' compilation album, which was released in late 1996. The band was nominated for "Best New Group" at the 1997 Juno Awards. Canadian rock music charts (established June 11, 1995) publishes a weekly alternative rock music chart under the name ''Alternative 30.'' RPM charts On June 11, 1995, Canadian music magazine '' RPM'' began publishing a weekly alternative rock music chart under the name ''Alternative 30''. The song which held the number-one spot on this first chart was " More Human than Human" by White Zombie. The chart took a break from December 14, 1998, to April 11, 1999, and returned on April 12 under the new name ''Rock Report''. "Free Girl Now" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers debuted at the top of this newly named chart. On October 25, 1999, the chart made a slight change to the name ''Top 30 Rock Report''. Mint Records Artists
Mint Records is a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada-based independent record label founded in 1991, by friends and campus radio enthusiasts Randy Iwata and Bill Baker. Mint has put out over 150 releases, several of which have won Juno Awards. History Iwata and Baker started working together at CITR-FM, the University of British Columbia radio station. Three years after graduation, they left the station, and founded Mint Records in January, 1991 to release the music of up-and-coming bands in Vancouver. One of their earliest successes was a band called cub who, alongside Bunnygrunt and labelmates Maow, helped pioneer the vein of indie pop known as cuddlecore. Neko Case, performed in both Cub and Maow, released her first solo album on Mint. Jam! was a Canadian website which covers entertainment news. It was part of the Canoe.com online portal, formerly owned and operated by Quebecor through its Sun Media division, and now owned by Postmedia Network. Jam! was the only media outlet that published a comprehensive collection of the official Canadian record charts as compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems.
