Play School (Australian TV Series)
''Play School'' is an Australian educational television show for children produced by the educational department of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), based on the original British version created by Joy Whitby, with many of the presenters former school teachers, whilst others being a mix of well known stage and screen actors and musicians. It is the longest-running children's show in Australia and the second-longest-running children's show worldwide after British series ''Blue Peter''. An estimated 80% of pre-school children under six watch the program at least once a week. ''Play School'' was admitted to the Logie Hall of Fame in 2006, the program's 40th anniversary year. It is one of only five Australian television programs to be inducted. Carrie Bickmore
Carrie Bickmore (born 3 December 1980) is an Australian radio presenter, comedian and former television presenter. She currently co-hosts the national drive radio show on the Hit Network, '' Carrie & Tommy'', from 3–6pm weeknights alongside Tommy Little. Three Little Fishies
"Three Little Fishies", also known as "Three Little Fishes", is a 1939 song with words by Josephine Carringer and Bernice Idins and music by Saxie Dowell. The song tells the story of three fishes, who defy their mother's command of swimming only in a meadow, by swimming over a dam and on out to sea, where they encounter a shark, which the fish describe as a whale. They flee for their lives and return to the meadow in safety. The song was a US No. 1 hit for Kay Kyser and his band in 1939. It was released in the UK as a 78 by British comedian Frankie Howerd, on the short-lived UK Harmony label, in 1949. Teddy Bears' Picnic
"The Teddy Bears' Picnic" is a song consisting of a melody written in 1907 by American composer John Walter Bratton, and lyrics added in 1932 by Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy. It remains popular in Ireland and the United Kingdom as a children's song, having been recorded by numerous artists over the decades. Kennedy lived at Staplegrove Elm and is buried in Staplegrove Church, in Taunton, Somerset, England. Local folklore has it that the small wooded area between the church and Staplegrove Scout Hut was the inspiration for his lyrics. Background Bratton composed and personally copyrighted it in 1907, and then assigned the copyright to M. Don Spencer
Donald Richard Spencer (born 22 March 1937) is an Australian singer-songwriter, musician, and former children's television presenter. He had a long tenure as a host on ''Play School'' on both the Play School (Australian TV series), Australian version (1968–99) and the Play School (British TV series), United Kingdom version (1972–88), one of only two presenters to work on both versions.
